Anthony Joshua reveals what he fears about Andy Ruiz ahead of rematch in Saudi Arabia

Published

Anthony Joshua has claimed “sometimes the ones who are calm and chilled can bark”, when speaking about Andy Ruiz during a press conference in London on Friday.

The Briton also rated Ruiz as “the best heavyweight out there”.

Both boxers went face to face in London, as their three-day press tour ended, ahead of their December 7 rematch in Saudi Arabia.

Asked about again being a challenger to the world heavyweight championships, Joshua said: “It’s a great mindset to have and you can’t lose that. The minute you lose it, you’ve got to retire. You’ve got to be hungry.

“I had a blip. We go again. I’m not shy. No fear.”

Joshua said about his upcoming opponent who took his IBF, WBA and WBO belts earlier this year: “Ruiz Jr is calm but he can fight. He is not a fake character who puts on a persona.

“Sometimes the ones who are calm and chilled can bark back, and can definitely fight.”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State chapter, on Monday congratulated the newly-appointed commissioner for Youth and Sports in the state, Mr. Seun Fakorede.

NANS, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Asubiojo Olujuwon Marshal noted that “youths across the country have over the years campaigned vehemently for the inclusion of younger persons in political offices, but when the world thought it was over with the election of a 25 year old lawmaker, Governor Seyi Makinde shocked the status quo with the appointment of a 27 year old Civil Engineer to head the ministry of Youth and Sports in the state”.

Congratulating Fakorede  on behalf of  the Nigerian students,  Comrade  Asubiojo further described the commissioner’s appointment as a round peg in a round hole “going by the proven leadership strength, sound knowledge of sports and youthful vigour”. He averred that Fakorede’s appointment would bring unprecedented development to the constituency.

“We wish to remind the Honorable Commissioner that he no longer represents himself and family alone, but the entire youths in the state and the country. As the world awaits the result of this bold appointment by Governor Seyi Makinde, it is our believe that Hon. Seun Fakorede will show the world that youths are the solution to the leadership problems of the world through focused leadership and laudable achievements”, the statement reads.

FIFA Slap Lifetime Ban On Samson Siasia For Taking Bribes

World Football’s Governing Body, FIFA on Friday issued a lifetime ban on Samson Siasia, former Nigeria Football Federation official after the body’s ethics panel found him guilty of taking bribes in connection with match fixing.

In a statement, the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s independent ethics committee said the probe targeting Siasia stemmed from a wider investigation involving Wilson Raj Perumal, who has confessed to international match-fixing.

The probe that began in February found Siasia “guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics,” the statement said.

In addition to being banned from all football related activity for life, Siasia was also handed a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs ($50,000, 46,000 euros).

Siasia, a former striker, also briefly coached Nigeria’s men’s national football team.

FIFA did not detail the nature of ties to Perumal, a Singaporean national who was arrested and jailed in Finland in 2011 for fixing top-tier football games there.

Perumal later collaborated with match fixing investigators.
