Ex-Oyo PMS Boss, Auxiliary Paraded for Murder, Other Crimes
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola, on Thursday, paraded the former Chairman of the Park Management System, Lamidi Mukaila, commonly known as Auxiliary.
The arrest came following months of pursuit after the Department of State Services detained Auxiliary at his Olodo residence in Ibadan, the state capital, on the penultimate Tuesday.
Mukaila had been on the run since the police declared him wanted for his alleged involvement in a string of armed robbery, kidnapping, and murder cases.
Adebola, addressing the media while parading the suspect at the state police command, emphasised that Mukaila would face charges in court.
He stated, “Discreet intelligence-led search commenced for the sacked PMS chieftain with the help of technology, collaborative efforts with sister services and community policing, many locations were identified, traced and combed for months until his recent arrest in a concerted effort with our sister services.”
The Commissioner outlined the extensive list of exhibits recovered from Mukaila’s possession at his Diamond Hotel residence around Alakia-Isebo Egbeda under Egbeda Local Government Area.
The recovered items include one AK-47 Rifle, four AK-47 magazines, 84 live AK-47 Ammunitions, 19 pump-action rifles, one Barreta pistol, seven cut-to-size guns, one English-made Barrel Gun, 724 live cartridges, 25 cutlasses, Seven Jack knives, 33 mobile phones, one Samsung laptop, charms, one Mazda Bus, one Toyota Sienna, and a cash sum of N3,450,000.00.
Continuing, the Police chief affirmed that Mukaila would be charged to court for the offenses committed.
He expressed gratitude to the public for providing credible information to help curb crime in the state.
Adebola also reiterated the commitment of the command to deal decisively with any criminally motivated individual or group aiming to regress the state into the historical dark ages of the “Wild West.”
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have apprehended an 80-year-old grandfather, Aremu Shojobi, for possession of 14 kilograms of cannabis.
The arrest was made by the Lagos State Strategic Command of the Agency last Friday, at Shojobi’s residence in the Iyana Ipaja area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.
According to Babafemi, during questioning, the octogenarian confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for the past 25 years.
Shojobi further revealed that he sources his cannabis supply from the Republic of Benin and operates from his home, selling to customers daily between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m.
The agency has intensified its efforts to curb the illicit drug trade, and Shojobi’s arrest is seen as part of their ongoing crackdown on drug dealers in Lagos and beyond.
Police operatives in Lagos State have apprehended two individuals for allegedly trafficking newborn twin girls.
The arrest was made in the Berger area after a “Good Samaritan” alerted officers from the Ojodu Police Division.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday.
According to him, the suspects were found with two baby girls, approximately six days old, during a routine check on September 9, 2024. The suspects were traveling from Abia State at the time of their arrest.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were on their way to deliver the babies to a nurse in Lagos, who had been arranged by the mother of the twins. The deal was set to be completed once the suspects arrived in the state, Hundeyin disclosed.
“Upon questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime, stating they had been paid ₦150,000 to transport the babies to Lagos,” the police spokesman said. “They further revealed that the mother sold her newborns because she believed she could not provide proper care for them.”
Hundeyin added that efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals involved in the conspiracy. The arrested suspects were arraigned on Thursday, September 19, 2024, for their role in the illegal sale.
Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.
The twins have been placed in the care of a motherless babies home, where they are receiving proper care and medical evaluation.
The Lagos State Police Command continues to investigate the matter and has urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities involving child trafficking.
The Abuja Police Command has arrested a Nigerian Navy officer, Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, in connection with the murder of Aminu Ibrahim, the son of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd). The arrest was announced by the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, during a press briefing on Wednesday.
According to Commissioner Igweh, Muhammad confessed to the crime, which occurred two weeks ago in the Maitama area of Abuja.
He revealed that Aminu Ibrahim was robbed and killed, and his Prado Jeep was stolen. However, the vehicle has since been recovered by the police.
“About two weeks ago, Aminu Ibrahim, the son of Vice Admiral I. I. Ibrahim (retd), a former Chief of Naval Staff, was robbed and killed in the Maitama area of Abuja, and his Prado SUV was taken. I want to inform you that Abdul Rasheed Muhammad, a serving Nigerian Navy personnel, committed the murder. He has confessed to the crime, and we have recovered the Prado Jeep,” Igweh stated.
Speaking to journalists, Muhammad, a seaman in the Nigerian Navy, disclosed that he was deployed as a security officer to the residence of the former Chief of Naval Staff. He recounted the events leading to the crime, stating that on the night of the incident, Aminu requested his security escort as he went out around 11:30 PM.
“I work at the house. He wanted to go out at night, around 11:30. He said he needed security. So, I followed him with my gun. Along the way, he stopped to check his ATM, as if he was going to buy something. I thought maybe I was going to escort him to a market or somewhere. Then, when I came out through the other door, I shot him, took the car, and left. I’m a guard and a seaman in the Navy. He did not do anything to me; I killed him to steal his car,” Muhammad confessed.
In a related development, the Abuja Police Command also paraded 94 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), who were arrested following the death of two police officers on Sunday. The details of their arrest were not immediately disclosed.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and maintaining peace and security in the Federal Capital Territory.
