Education stakeholders laud Oyo’s SGB policy

THE newly launched education policy by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State dubbed “School Governing Board (SGB) has been greeted with commendations from stakeholders in the sector, describing it as a step in the right direction towards revitalising education system.

The Board, aimed at restoring, transforming and repositioning the education sector was recently inaugurated in all the 628 Public Secondary Schools in Oyo state.

Speaking at the monthly stakeholders meeting held on Friday at the Conference room, Ministry of Education, Agodi Government Secretariat, Ibadan, the state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Niyi Akano noted that the policy has not only provided conducive and child friendly environment, but will also enhance teaching and learning activities in the schools.

“We thank the government for introducing the SGB. We have been seeing the impacts. We pray that this should be extended to primary schools”.

Corroborating him, the Secretary, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Pastor Olujide Babajide paid a glowing tribute to the governor for the initiative taken to introduce SGB.

Pastor Olujide stressed, ” prior to the introduction of SGB, management and administration of public secondary school in the state was very difficult, provision of facilities were not forthcoming.

“But since the introduction of the SGB, the schools have been experiencing a great relief in terms of provision of finance. So far so good, since the program started, a lot of renovations have taken place.

The ANCOPSS’s Secretary averred that the government’s policy encourages partnership with the public and community, adding that it has encouraged active participation of the old students, philanthropists in uplifting the educational standard and rebuilding schools.

Also, he lauded the “No Automatic Promotion’ policy recently enforced by the state government, saying it has strengthened the capacity of the students. Students have adjusted, they are now more focused, sitting and attending classes regularly”.

Earlier in his address, the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela explained that the present administration has not relented in carrying out series of renovation in schools, adding that the government will commence renovation of 100 secondary schools across the 33 local government areas in the state based on needs and strategic locations.

The positive results of SGB policy, according to Olowofela has demonstrated the commitment and cooperation of old students, parents, philanthropists that no government can shoulder the responsibilities of education alone.

” It is this conviction that gave birth to the establishment of the School Governing Board (SGB)”, the commissioner noted.

He, however assured that the collaborative efforts between the government and stakeholders in the education sector will restore its lost glory.

Oyo: Oseni to Launch Mobile Clinic Initiative to Revitalize Rural Healthcare

A member representing Ibarapa East/Ido federal constituency of Oyo State at the House of Representatives, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, has announced a plan to launch a “Mobile Clinic” programme aimed at providing essential healthcare services directly to rural communities across the constituency.

Scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025, this initiative underscores Oseni’s commitment to expanding healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations.

Speaking on Saturday at the 10th-anniversary celebration of God’s Knot Hospital in Ologuneru, Ibadan, the lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), highlighted the programme’s primary objective: bringing healthcare closer to the people.

“Every community deserves attention; healthcare should never be bound by geographical barriers,” Oseni stated.

He explained that the mobile clinics would deliver essential health check-ups, screenings, and preventive care in remote areas, allowing residents to access quality healthcare without traveling long distances.

As part of his broader healthcare agenda, Oseni informed, through a statement by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, that he has already facilitated the construction of two fully equipped maternity centers within his constituency, both slated for commissioning before December 2024. He also disclosed plans to establish two modern general hospitals in 2025, further strengthening his commitment to building a healthier community.

The lawmaker expressed interest in collaborating with God’s Knot Hospital on the mobile clinic project, calling for partnerships to support sustainable healthcare initiatives that enhance the quality of life for vulnerable populations in the constituency.

“I resonate deeply with the mission of God’s Knot Hospital,” Oseni shared, adding that such partnerships would significantly improve healthcare in Oyo State”.

The anniversary event attracted distinguished guests, including former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, whom Oseni commended for his contributions to healthcare, particularly through the Mother and Child Hospitals that transformed maternal and child healthcare in Ondo State.

Oseni urged philanthropists, government bodies, and international organizations to support healthcare projects like the upcoming mobile clinics, emphasising that the improvement of healthcare services is a shared responsibility.

Oyo Rep, Oseni Pays APC Secretariat Staff Salaries, Donates N10m to Boost Party Operations

House of Representatives member and Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engr. Aderemi Oseni, has fulfilled his pledge to support the welfare of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staff in Oyo State.

In a gesture highlighting his commitment, the lawmaker personally funded the salaries of staff at the APC’s Oke Ado Secretariat in Ibadan, reinforcing his dedication to the smooth operation of the party’s activities in the state.

Representing the Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Oseni recently visited the secretariat, where he expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their contributions.

As a further commitment to the smooth operation of the party’s activities, the lawmaker generously donated ten million naira (N10,000,000) as an allowance to enhance the secretariat’s functions.

In a statement released Wednesday by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the lawmaker extended appreciation to the secretariat staff, whom he described as the backbone of the party’s daily functions.

He lauded their dedication, noting their essential role in advancing the party’s goals.

“Leadership is about service, and service begins with supporting those who make the party function from within,” Oseni remarked.

“I am proud to honour this commitment to our staff, as they play a crucial role in making our political structures work effectively. This is my way of showing appreciation for their unwavering dedication”, he added.

Rep Oseni Rallies Support for Ikogosi Development Projects, Calls for Resilience, Unity

The Chairman of the House Committee on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and representative of Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in Oyo State, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, on Saturday urged the community to unite in advancing key development projects aimed at transforming Ikogosi.

 

Speaking at this year’s Ikogosi Day celebration and the launch of a N1 billion development project in Ekiti, the lawmaker, who served as the Chairman of the occasion, emphasised the importance of unity and collective action.

He encouraged attendees to approach the celebration as a call to action for the betterment of their community.

“As we all know, Ikogosi is not merely a town; it is a treasured gem in the heart of Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole,” he said. “Ikogosi, a historic and vibrant town, plays a vital role in the tourism and economic landscape of Ekiti State. Its rich cultural heritage and unique resources draw visitors and stimulate economic activities that benefit us all.”
