Oyo PDP lauds Makinde over move to conduct LG election

Published

on

Oyo state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on  Friday commended Governor Seyi Makinde over what it described as successful composition and inauguration of the state independent electoral commission (OYSIEC).

The ruling party in the state in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Engr Akeem Olatunji, and made available to journalists in Ibadan described the governor as the pride of PDP and the entire state.

The statement added that the singular move by Governor Makinde to conduct local government election within shortest possible time was a clear manifestation of what in yoruba parlance is called ‘omoluabi’.

The statement stressed that it is the singular concept of ‘omoluabi’ that guides the political philosophy and ideology of yoruba founding fathers and political sage such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The party stressed that as simple as the decision by the governor to conduct local government elections in less than 15 months of being in office it took the last administration under the All Progressives Congress (APC) an entire seven years to conduct a kangaroo election.

The Oyo state chapter of PDP particularly commended governor Seyi Makinde, for showing exceptional commitment to good governance in Oyo state and Nigeria as a whole.

It further noted that with the level of preparation going on towards the conduct of local government election, Governor Makinde is clearly matching his words with equal action adding that Oyo state is blessed to have governor Makinde at the helms of affairs at this critical time of economic downturn.

Oyo: Why I am happy I didn’t win 2019 election – Adelabu gives reason

Published

Oyo state governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) In the 2019 election, Chief Adebayo Adelabu on Thursday said he was grateful that he did not win the 2019 election, adding that he would be a better governor in 2023.

Justifying his statement, Adelabu, who spoke during a media parley and lunch with journalists in Ibadan, the state capital stressed that losing the election has afforded him opportunity of knowing more about how progressives in the state operate.

According to the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN),  unlike before, he has warmed himself into the heart of the grassroots and members of his APC.

Commenting on the present administration’s performance,  he said almost two years after Governor Seyi Makinde was inaugurated, nothing concrete could be pointed to as achievement of PDP-led government.

He said,  “Everything this administration promised the people of the state is still on their wish list 16 months after coming on board. With the caliber of people that have returned to APC, no party can stand the way of our party.

“No state needs a governor before salary is paid. When salary is paid through statutory allocations and it goes straight to the Accountant General, they take it to the bank and they pay. Why must that be the major achievement of any governor?

“And when you embark too much on populist programmes, which, in most cases, are not always giving the state sustainable development, it is more about immediate consumption.

“Populist programmes are short-lived. Within a short period, people will know that this man doesn’t really have so much to offer in terms of sustainable infrastructural development.

“It is going to two years now, can you point at one or two major projects that this government has completed? Everything is still on their wish list and if wishes were horses, beggars would ride,” he concluded.

Adelabu, who was full of thanks to God for sparing his life to reach 50 years, however noted that his grandfather, Adegoke Adelabu and father AbdulRauf Adelabu, both died aged 43 and 33 respectively.
