Oyo Govt. Lauds UBEC/SUBEB Contractors in Oke-Ogun

Oyo State Government has commended contractors handling various on-going UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in Oke-Ogun region for the unprecedented level of performance.
The Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran made the commendation during an on-the-spot assessment visit to some on-going project sites in the 10 Local Government Areas in the Northern part of the state.
Adeniran explained that the government was using its resources as counterpart fund to construct projects that would provide conducive learning environment for children across the state.
“We hope to entrench a lasting legacy in the area of basic education, by providing good learning environment for these children”.
The Chairman posited that the projects would go a long way in promoting the socio-educational development of the state, assuring that some of the projects, including four (4) Model Schools, would be ready for usage in the next academic session.
“This is why Governor Seyi- Makinde in his wisdom has decided to ensure that quality work is provided by all contractors”, he added.
Meanwhile, during the inspection, the SUBEB boss announced that the State Government would site a Model school at the Command Science Secondary School, Saki.
He said the State Government would make provisions for this in the 2019 intervention funds, as part of Government’s contribution to the development of education in the region.
While enumerating the level of performance of the projects, which he said was eighty percent completed and ready for commissioning, the Chairman further assured members of the public that most of the projects would be ready for use by next session.
Among the schools visited were St. Paul Ang. Pry. sch. Okutapemo, Anwaru-Islam Jnr. High School, Iseyin, Awoyemi Commercial High School, Okeho.
Others include LA Pry School, Olele; First ABS Basic School, Gbelekale Ilero; Muslim Community Pry School, Isale Alfa, Saki; Command Science Secondary School, Saki among others.

Education: NGO Donates Free Exercise Books To Students In Ekiti

A Non – Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the aegis of VMA Foundation has distributed exercise books worth over N500,000 to public primary and secondary schools in Oke-Oro Ekiti, Ekiti state. The Foundation owned by Chief Victor Mobolaji, an international businessman, also offers medical outreach, educational services, vocational training, agricultural and economic empowerment to the aged and less privileged in the society.
Founder of the organisation, Chief Mobolaji informed that the gesture is to support the less privileged and indigent students whose parents could barely afford school materials.
“It gives us great pleasure to support the students in Oke Oro, we consider educating the younger ones to be a top priority. The more we can support programmes that enrich their educational experiences, the better”.
He disclosed further that the foundation has also spent millions of Naira on economic empowerment and health care services to support people with health challenges in the country.
Chief Mobolaji, however promised that the foundation will not relent in its efforts to better the lives of the people around, just as he urged others to replicate such gesture.
Remarking, the Owa of Oke Oro Ekiti, Oba Alex Adebukola Aina lauded Mobolaji for his gesture, urging him to continue to be a good ambassador of the community.
“We are proud of you, your gesture will go a long way in assisting the younger ones who are the future of the community and I want to urge you to continue your good deed”, he said.

OyoSUBEB resumes inspection of Intervention Projects

The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran earlier this week has continued the inspection of some ongoing 2017 UBEC-OyoSUBEB intervention projects in Ogbomosho and Ibadan zones.
Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran while inspecting, recounted the importance of the projects to improvement of basic education in the State.
The Chairman expressed satisfaction at the standard and speed at which the ongoing projects are being executed, saying most of the projects are ready for use for the pupils when pupils resume school, next term.
He also revealed that the completion of the projects would give easy passage to the commencement the 2018 Intervention projects in earnest, noting that the inspection became very necessary, due to the Executive Governor’s passion for the sector.
The Chairman’s first call was Methodist Primary School, Bodija, where he assured the school authority that Government would soon site a Model school there, in fulfilment of the State Government’s pledge to improve learning in the State.
“As soon as we commence the next intervention Project, a Model school would be sited here. Therefore, let me plead with the traders displaying their wares at the entrance of schools; blocking the entrance of this school, to please vacate the space, as a big project would soon commence here”, he said.
The Chairman also visited Anwaru-Islam Primary School, Eleyele, 1,2,3, and St. Peters Primary School, Aremo, where he urged the contractors on site to speed up the projects, against resumption of the pupils, next term.
Further among other projects visited by the Chairman is Elewura Community Primary School, Elewura- where the project has been completed, and in use already by the School pupils.
Speaking on security threats meted out by hoodlums in most public-school premises, the Chairman promised that the State Government would henceforth ensure arrest and prosecution of anyone found culpable of disturbing the peace of schools, during and after school hours.
Meanwhile, the Chairman also monitored the ongoing Unified examination in all public pry. Schools in the State.
The Chairman said the essence of the monitoring exercise was to ensure that quality returned to the education system in the State.
He recalled that the present administration, under Governor Seyi Makinde, has strengthened the unified examination, so as to nurture the pupils from the scratch, saying this would go a long way in curbing failure.
He said, “This Government has paid for the unified examination for public primary schools in the state, which the past administration rested its responsibilities on the shoulders of the parents. With this exam, we can know the competence level of each pupil we nurture and know how to help them”.
“With this kind gesture of the Governor, no pupil would be absent based on lack of funds”, he opined.

34th Convocation Ceremony: Ibadan Poly to Honour Best Graduating Students

Management of The Polytechnic Ibadan has disclosed that it will recognize and honour its best graduating students who have satisfactory distinguished themselves in learning, character, exceptionally excelled across programmes and also those who recorded best performance in other extra curricular activities.
Its Deputy Rector, who doubles as the Chairman, Graduation Ceremony Planning Committee, Mrs Abiodun Olubunmi Olubamiwa disclosed this in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital at a Press Briefing ahead of the 34th Convocation Ceremony billed for 13th December, 2019, held at the premises of the institution on Wednesday.
Olubamiwa noted that the decision will serve as a motivation to current and prospective students by encouraging them to always put in their best in their studies, adding that the ceremony will also serve as a social and moral reward for parents and guardians who put in their hard earned resources to support their children and wards towards making a success in their academic endeavours.
Also, the Deputy Rector hinted that the ceremony is to be presided over by the Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who is also the visitor to the institution, saying “this will be the first graduation ceremony of the Institution he will be attending since inception of this administration on 29th May, 2019”
While highlighting the series of activities lined up for the Graduation Ceremony of the institution, she listed Jumah and Church services, graduation lecture, graduation and award giving ceremony among others as the activities to commemorate the ceremony.
Speaking further, she also informed that the graduation lecture titled: “The Dream, The Challenges and The Reality of Contemporary Nigeria for Fresh Graduates” would be delivered by Prof Ayobami Ojebode, the Head of Department, Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan. Olubamiwa explained that the lecture is organized with the intend of broadening the knowledge of all the graduands and to educate them on the issues around contemporary Nigeria as it affects fresh graduates
“This lecture will serve as parting advice for them to be successful in life”, she said.
According to the Deputy Rector, ten undergraduate students of the institution have been given scholarship award for their studies at the institution due to their outstanding performance at the Nigeria Polytechnic Games, (NIPOGA), stressing that those who were rewarded for their outstanding performance at the recent zonal NIPOGA games, held at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo in Ondo State participated in games like tennis, baseball, scrabbles, chess, hockey and other games.
She added that the management and the Rector of the institution; Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi approved the scholarship to motivate students and staff in the area of sporting activities.
“The gesture was to prove that the institution does not only reward academic excellent alone but also gives full recognition to students that shine in the other field such as sports. The management of the institution gave full support to sporting activities for both students and staff. The institution participated in zonal NIPOGA games which was held at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo ondo state between 19th and 25th October, 2019 and the students won twenty five (25) gold medals in the various sporting activities such as tennis, baseball, scrabbles, chess, hockey and other games.
“In recognition of these landmark achievements, the management of the institution under the leadership of Prof. Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi had graciously approved scholarship for ten (10) student’s athletes that excelled in the above mentioned competition. This act proves that The Polytechnic, Ibadan does not only reward academic excellent but gives full recognition to students that shine in the other field such as sports”, Olubamiwa concluded.
