Oyo ALGON to Makinde: Accept Our Sympathy, Your Excellency

Published

on

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter has sympathised with the state governor,  Engr. Seyi Makinde, for what it described as the unnecessary stress and avoidable tension the governor and his government have imposed on themselves because of the illegal dissolution of democratically elected local government.

Oyo ALGON further described it as an arbitrary decision which was imposed on the governor  by the few power hustlers who took advantage of his inexperience on governance issues.

The Association in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Prince Ayodeji Abass Aleshinloye in Ibadan on Monday and made available to Mega Icon Magazine said, “Since he didn’t reject the dangerous decision when he wanted to, then he should blame no one but himself for the stress he is going through particularly within the past 72 hours when the reality of our resumption to duty is dawning on the government”.

Reacting to a press  statement issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, Prince Aleshinloye said the statement is full of furry and panic signifying nothing beyond “his usual lies, blackmail to confuse the peace loving people of Oyo State”.

Aleshinloye in the statement added, “despite our assurance of peace and adequate police protection to all peace loving citizens in our public statement as we resume our legitimate duty, the CPS to the governor has revealed the government’s plan to foment trouble and return the state to the theatre of political violence and thuggery.

“When a government that has disobeyed court orders and ignored timely advice by police, whose primary duty is law enforcement and peace keeping, promised to unleash “full wrath of law” on lawful people, then the public should suspect and understand that the government is planning to use thugs not the police or any other security agency to impose its “full wrath of law” as it promised.

“Anyway, the police and other law enforcement agencies have assured ALGON and the general public that trouble makers will not be allowed to perpetuate their violent acts.

“Justice is the first condition of peace, a government that does not respect courts including Supreme Court judgment cannot be trusted to guarantee peace but to unleash violence.

“Once again, we assure all citizens including local government workers of a trouble free resumption, the police as directed by the IGP are fully on ground to enforce law and the Supreme Court judgement. No matter how high anyone is, the Law is above all. Peace be! No cause for Alarm”, the statement concluded

Oyo LG Crisis: ALGON condemns Makinde’s proposal, says ‘payoff’ violates anti corruption war

Published

on

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo State chapter has condemned the suggestion by Governor Seyi Makinde to pay them off, describing the idea as antithetical to the war against corruption.

Contained in a letter written to the Counsel to the State Government, Mr Akin Onigbinde SAN by ALGON through its lawyer, Kunle Sobaloju Esq , the sacked elected chairmen said the suggestion is a disservice to the people of their local government and Oyo State to collect financial compensation in lieu of their constitutionally guaranteed tenure.

The Association also expressed appreciation to the government for recognizing and acknowledging their mandate as the democratically elected officials of the 33 Local Council and 35 local development areas respectively by offering to pay them their salaries.

“We refer to your letter dated 20th February, 2020 and have brought the contents of the said letter to the notice of our client which they have considered, and by this letter, we wish to communicate their response to you.

The letter reads, “We have our clients’ instruction to express their appreciation to his Excellency for recognizing and acknowledging our clients’ mandate as the democratically elected Chairmen and Councilors of the 33 Local Government Councils and 35 LCDAs in Oyo State by offering to pay them their salaries and allowances due.

“However, our clients consider it a disservice to the people of their respective Local Government Areas and the entire people of Oyo State to collect financial compensation as proposed by you in lieu of their constitutionally guaranteed election tenure.

“Our Clients are equally of the view that accepting financial compensation by way of your calculated salary and severance allowance would amount to aiding the breach of the constitution and may also lead to violation of anti-corruption laws by collecting salaries and allowances for a futuristic job tenure yet to be lived out.

“We therefore have our clients’ instruction to inform you that the financial pay off proposed is unacceptable to them.

“We appreciate your efforts towards the amicable settlement of issues between the parties and convey our professional regards of the highest esteem”, the letter concluded.

The government’s counsel, Akin Onigbinde SAN had earlier sought for an Out of Court Settlement’  which was adopted by all stakeholders involved in the crisis rocking the local governments in the state.

ALGON believes this is idea”, the document reads

The association , however lauded  Governor Makinde for recognizing and acknowledging the elected chairpersons and councilors by offering to pay them salaries and allowances.

Published

on

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) In Oyo State, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoenia, on Sunday disclosed that some sycophants who have formed cabal around the governor of the state, Engineer Seyi Makinde want him out of the party.

While speaking with Journalists on the heel of the rumour going round that he has perfected plan to leave the PDP,  Olopoenia maintained that despite the fact that he owe nobody any explanation or apology if he wishes to leave the party as founding members of the PDP and one of the few that has in no time left the party, millions of those sycophants cannot move him out of the party.

He explained that these sycophants want him out of the party by all means as a result of his advice to the Governor on the issue surrounding the National Union of Road and Transport Workers (NURTW), noting that the issue of the NURTW was what bastardized the government of former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala when he was in PDP.

And not to let history repeat itself again, he continue to advice Governor Makinde on the issue and others but these sycophants who have formed cabal around him, and who have went into agreement with a faction of NURTW started waging war against him.

“When the advice wanted to turn to another thing, I have to back out. Some said I want to be the Chairman of the Union, that’s why am against the choice of a factional leader to lead the Union, some said I have interest in another factional leader.

“But my own interest is the peaceful atmosphere in the state and that was the reason I was cautioning the Governor on the issue but when it wanted to turn to another thing entirely to the extent that my life was in danger, I had to back out”.

It would be recalled that few weeks ago Olopoenia raised an alarm of threat to his life, saying a factional leader of the NURTW in the state is planning to assassinate him.

According to him, “some sycophants who have formed themselves as cabal around Governor Makinde wants me out of the PDP but million of them cannot move me out of the party.

“Though if I wish to leave the PDP today, I owe nobody any explanation. I am one of the founding members of the the party, I am one of the few who has never for a leave the party. Those who are carry the rumour that I wanted to leave the party, are those who are looking for what to eat, they have left the party in several occasions but find their way into the government.

“Why would I leave the party that I build, when Governor Ajimobi was in power in 2012, he invited me to join his party, I refused. When Governor Akala left the PDP to Labour party, despite our closeness, I didn’t followed him.

“I started the reformation of the PDP in 2015, bringing back those who have left, working tirelessly to bring PDP back to power in 2019, why would now leave the party when we are in government.

“But I owe nobody any apology or explanation if I decided to leave but I am not leaving, the rumour is the handiwork of sycophants who have formed cabal around the Governor but they cannot destroy our party neither the government”, he said.
