Senator Ahmad Lawan representing Yobe north senatorial district on Tuesday emerged the Senate president of the 9th National Assembly.
Lawan defeated his main challenger, senator representing Borno south, Ali Ndume, after the counting of the ballot by the clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.
One hundred and seven senators cast their votes as Lawan conveniently polled 79 votes as against Ndume who scored 28.
His victory was announced by the clerk of the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori.
