Oyo APC Mocks Makinde Over PDP Loss  In Kogi

Published

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has queried Governor Oluseyi Makinde over an alleged abandonment of his duty post to participate in the last Saturday gubernatorial poll in Kogi State which the APC candidate won with a landslide margin.

Gov. Makinde reportedly relocated to Lokoja- the Kogi State capital, ahead of the polls as he was appointed chairman for the PDP campaigns ahead of the poll which the party eventually lost to the ruling APC by over 200, 000 votes.

In a statement issued on Monday and made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Assistant Publicity Secretary, Prince Ayobami Adewuyi, Oyo APC disclosed that “Gov. Makinde must have been overrated by his party on account of a fake mandate which made him an unofficial caretaker governor in the Pacesetter State.

“He (Makinde) should have limited his contribution to the PDP campaigns in Kogi state to cash donations alone since he did not see any reasons why the resources of our dear state should not be squandered the way he is doing but he also went too far by making himself available for days in an election taking place in a northern state that is far away from his own domain and thus abandoned his responsibilities at home.

“If anything, Gov. Makinde’s presence in Kogi reduced the chances of the PDP candidate by two per cent and in the end, the superior APC popularity consumed him and his co-travelers. It is on record that Makinde relocated to another state at a time Ibadan and other major cities were on the verge of experiencing cholera outbreak due to the inability of his government to keep the state clean.

“Virtually all the state governors in the country have indicated their readiness to start the payment of the new minimum wage of N30, 000 to their workers but the current Oyo State government has not demonstrated any commitment in this regard. Also, there have been concerns over increasing crime rate as well as constant threat to public peace by some hoodlums but the PDP government has not immediate response to this while the governor preferred to prioritize an election in another state.

“Meanwhile, it is imperative for us to make a passionate appeal to the good people of the state to further endure the sloppiness and ineptitude of the PDP administration while they await the final determination of the litigation arising from the last gubernatorial election in the state which we pray would be in favor of our own Chief Adebayo Adelabu.” APC stated.

The party also expressed its satisfaction over the conduct of the last Saturday governorship polls in Bayelsa and Kogi states in which the candidates of the APC emerged victorious. “That our party eventually made it to the Government House in Yenagoa with the election of Chief David Lyon as well as the reelection of Gov. Yahaya Bello as the governor of Kogi State is an indication that Nigerians all over are ready for good governance.” The party concluded.

Cover your faces in shame, Kogi PDP blasts APC leaders over colourless campaign finale

Says Yahaya Bello had no achievement to point at in 4 years

The grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign in Kogi State held on Thursday has been described as colourless, shameful and a celebration of mediocrity and bad governance.

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stated this on Thursday, noting that APC leaders including Governor Nasir el-Rufai; Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman; wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Buhari and others should cover their faces in shame that they could be campaigning for Governor Yahaya Bello, who had no single achievement to point at in four years.

The party called on Kogi State electorate to issue a red card to Bello and vote for a new dawn, which Mr. Musa Wada, its standard-bearer in the election represents, noting that it was funny that APC leaders could still be pointing accusing fingers at PDP four years after Yahaya Bello had been in the saddle with nothing to show for the huge resources accrued to the state.

The PDP described as shameful and saddening the action of the Kaduna State governor, El-Rufai, who knelt down to beg for forgiveness for Bello, warning the Kogi State electorate not to be deceived by the ‘crocodile tears’ being shed by those pleading for forgiveness for Bello.

According to the PDP, in a statement signed by the Director, Media & Publicity, Engr. Musa Wada/Sam Aro Campaign Organisation, Faruk Adejoh-Audu, the fact that Bello could not point to any tangible achievement in four years but could only babble about Kogi being one, was enough evidence for the people of the state to sack him on Saturday.

The party added that Bello, an unrepentant bad administrator also lied to the entire world during the campaign that he owed no salaries even when the wife of the president and the national chairman were truthful enough to accept the reality that their candidate has failed workers and the citizenry in the state.

Similarly, the PDP said that it was vindicated in its call to OPC leader, Gani Adams and Yoruba traditional rulers to warn Fayemi to take his OPC thugs out of Kogi, noting that the APC campaign revealed the true state of things when Fayemi said he had come to pay Bello back for what he did during his (Fayemi’s) election.

“Today, the entire country watched the show of shame staged by the APC in Kogi State where the party owned up to its failure and irresponsibility in the state. The party’s leaders including Nasir el-Rufai; Hajia Aisha Buhari and Adams Oshiomhole all accepted that Bello should not and cannot be trusted to lead Kogi State ever again, because he is a let-down.

“Yahaya Bello has failed. He had no single achievement to point at in four years. And the APC campaign sold him out for who he is, a failure and a liar. This is enough evidence for our people to vote him out on Saturday.

“We urge our people not to be deceived by the actions of the APC leaders in begging for Bello; they cannot be trusted. The Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo knew this much and that was why he boycotted the campaign. No well-meaning leader will campaign for a governance disaster, which Yahaya Bello embodies,” the PDP concluded

The Council of İbadan Mogajis(Chiefs) has urged the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to keep his focus on the good service he is rendering in the state despite the controversy engineered by some political forces in respect of the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the petition filed against his election.

The Mogajis, who paid a solidarity visit to the Governor in his office, told the Governor that the people of Ibadanland and by extension, Oyo State, were solidly behind the Governor’s efforts aimed at developing the nooks and crannies of Oyo State.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the council, also known as Authentic Mogajis, asked the Governor not to waiver in taking the state to greater heights.

Mogaji Abdujelil Adanla, who spoke on behalf of the Chiefs said that the Governor should not be distracted, adding that his mandate cannot be tampered with or stolen.

Mogaji Adanla said the Mogajis were solidly behind the government of Engr. Seyi Makinde, urging him to remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.

The Mogajis also displayed placards with inscriptions such as “Say no to Colonialism in Democracy,” “Our mandate is not for sale,” among others.

ln his remarks, Governor Makinde appreciated the Council of Mogajis for their love and support towards his administration.

He assured the people of Oyo State that the mandate they gave to him would not be stolen by anybody.

He said: It is pleasing seeing the Mogajis. Those who are willing to shake our mandate should note that this is Oyo State. And as our people say, “Ajisebi Oyo laari, Oyo kii se bi enikan” (Oyo is perpetually a Pacesetter, it doesn’t imitate anyone).

He added: “The Appellate Court judgement has nothing to do with the will and mandate given to me by the people. So, there is no need for people to entertain fear.

“The margin of defeat in the March 9 Governorship election is too wide for anybody to overlook.”

He asked the people of Oyo State to remain law-abiding and to go on with their lawful businesses.

Governor Makinde further said that his administration would not relent in its effort to better the lives of the people of Oyo State through the provision of social amenities.
