The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee probing the alleged operations of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council has declared the appointment letter presented by the council’s self-styled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, as fake.

The committee also said investigations revealed that the law purportedly establishing the council was forged, raising fresh concerns over how the organisation allegedly operated and processed official government correspondence.

Chairman of the committee, Yusuf Gagdi, disclosed this on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing at the National Assembly in Abuja.

According to him, the findings were corroborated by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for the second time in compliance with its summons.

Gagdi said the Head of Service confirmed that the appointment letter submitted by Adeyemi was not issued by the appropriate authorities, while the Act he relied upon to justify the existence of the council was equally found to be inauthentic.

“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG. It was established,” Gagdi said.

Wednesday’s hearing was also attended by Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, who represented the Inspector-General of Police. However, Adeyemi, whose appearance had been expected, was absent.

The committee had on Monday directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi within 48 hours after describing the establishment and operation of the purported council as a serious violation of due process.

Lawmakers said his appearance before the panel had become necessary to explain how the disputed council allegedly secured official recognition, processed government correspondence and carried out its activities, adding that the investigation would continue until all issues surrounding its operations were resolved.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has announced a ₦50 million business support package for members of the Nigerian Union of Tailors (NUT) across the district as part of efforts to strengthen small businesses and improve livelihoods.

Oseni made the announcement on Tuesday during a meeting with the leadership and members of the union in Ibadan, where he reaffirmed his commitment to the economic empowerment of artisans and skilled professionals across Oyo South.

Speaking at the event, the lawmaker described artisans as the backbone of the grassroots economy, saying meaningful investment in vocational skills and small businesses remains one of the most effective ways to create jobs, reduce poverty and drive sustainable economic growth.

According to him, the initiative is part of his broader vision of building an economy where hardworking men and women have access to the resources they need to expand their businesses and become more self-reliant.

“Our tailors contribute immensely to the economy. They train young people, create jobs and provide livelihoods for countless families. They deserve more than words of encouragement; they deserve practical support that will help them grow their businesses and improve their standard of living,” Oseni said.

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) said empowering artisans remains one of the most effective ways to stimulate economic activities at the grassroots, noting that small businesses will continue to play a vital role in the development of Oyo South.

He urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support by expanding their businesses, creating more employment opportunities and mentoring young people through apprenticeship.

While canvassing support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and other APC candidates, Oseni described the intervention as an investment in the future of the district.

“This is not just financial assistance; it is an investment in the future of our people. When our artisans succeed, our communities prosper and our local economy becomes stronger,” he added.

President of the Nigerian Union of Tailors, Prince Rasheed Oyetunde, commended Oseni for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention, saying the support would help many members cope with rising operating costs and the increasing cost of sewing equipment and other production materials.

He said the gesture reflected Oseni’s commitment to human capital development and the growth of small-scale enterprises.

Oyetunde assured the APC candidate of the union’s support while reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and skills development. He expressed confidence that the empowerment would enable many members to expand their businesses, train more apprentices and contribute more meaningfully to the economy.
