CONGRESS: Oyo APC group proposes zoning of state chairmanship position to Oke-Ogun 1
As the All Progressive Congress (APC) announced its zoning arrangement ahead of the forthcoming State Congress, a group, Oyo APC Non-Align Movement has urged that for the peace to reign, the party Chairmanship should be zoned to Oke Ogun 1 as against the Ibarapa, where it was allegedly zoned to.
The group made this known in a statement by its PRO. Hon. Jonathan Abiodun Oladejo and made available to newsmen, on Wednesday .
According to the statement, “our group, the APC non-align movement, an integral part of Oyo APC will not fold its arms and continue to watch the party in Oyo State gravitates towards a halt. The outgoing executive or better still, the interim committee appears to have divided the party along the group lines and it may be pretty difficult to bring together the fragments. This would hinder the progress and a fruitful result for the yearning members in the forth coming elections if the exco goes one sided.
“The show of bravado exhibited by various warlords in the party is worrying and making us unhappy. We think the exercises done by Pa Akin Oke led interim committee be revisited in earnest before the Saturday 16th of October State Congress” , the group advised.
The statement continued, “Although a proposal has been presented at the stakeholders meeting held on Monday thereby decided that it should be reviewed along with Pa Akin Oke, the zonal leaders which are seven in numbers, the two former Deputy Governors and former Governor Alao Akala. While the Musiliu Akinremi (a.k.a.Jagaban) committee has seized to see the light of the day as events overtook that which we also agreed to as unalloyed party lovers, but the committee need not be crucified. We must commend the initiators of the committee at the same time Pa Oke for the efforts made.”
“Be that as it may, our position as to amendments of the template presented by Pa Oke are as follows:
“Other than the bench warmer status made of the stakeholders at the Monday parley meeting, zonal leaders ought to have been allowed to have inputs as to the positions zoned to various geopolitical zones. Therefore, the current agitations as to which and what to go where would not crop up.
“We opine that the party Chairmanship be taken to Oke Ogun 1 in particular as against Ibarapa zone in Oyo South Senatorial district for obvious reasons of reality in Oyo polity.
“Noting that we do not have luxury of time for explanation why it was proposed for Ibarapa;that in the interest of our party and the love of our numerous, hardworking and ever ready willing members to regain the Agodi government house is paramount, it is time for those with primordial interest to chart a new cause that will see the collective triumph of our party in the next general election. A word is enough for the wise.
“Finally, as the Chairmanship position is zoned as so proposed, the Deputy Chairman be zoned to Oyo Central and the Secretary be returned to Oyo South and precisely Ibadan city. All other positions could be where they are except the Treasurer that can be zoned to Oyo Central in Oyo town to be precise.” The statement concluded.
The group, however, thanked all its members for being steadfast and pray that come 2023, “the APC will reclaim the Agodi Government House to give the people good governance they are craving for”.
