2027: Service, Not Self — Oseni Declares for Oyo South Senatorial Seat

Published

Member representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aderemi Oseni, on Sunday formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo South Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

‎Oseni made the declaration at the Ibadan Recreation Centre, Sabo, Ibadan, during a meeting attended by party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of his political structure, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends.

The lawmaker said his decision followed wide consultations across the senatorial district, adding that he was convinced of securing the party’s ticket and winning the general election.

‎He said, “Having served diligently as your representative, I stand before you today ready to serve more. My ambition is not a departure from service, but a continuation of it.”

Oseni stated that his political journey had always been anchored on sacrifice, purpose and responsibility, stressing that leadership should be measured by service rather than position.

‎Highlighting his stewardship in the House of Representatives, Oseni said he had facilitated roads, schools, hospitals, bridges and streetlights across communities in his constituency.

‎He added that he had also supported education through sponsorship of students for WAEC and JAMB examinations, scholarships and payment of school fees for indigent students.

‎According to him, his empowerment programmes had benefited traders, artisans and market women, while over 30 youths had been transformed into millionaires through various intervention schemes.

Oseni, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Road Maintenance Agency, said he had sponsored motions on improved road maintenance funding and advocated free treatment for cancer and kidney patients among others.

‎He also disclosed that he had pushed for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Ido, describing healthcare access as a major priority of his public service agenda.

‎Speaking on his plans for Oyo South, Oseni said he would prioritise quality representation, education, healthcare, youth development, job creation and attraction of federal projects to the district.

He said, “My concept of empowerment goes beyond the distribution of tricycles, motorcycles and generators. True empowerment must build capacity, encourage innovation and create sustainable wealth.”

‎Reaffirming loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, Oseni declared that the President’s re-election in 2027 remained his ultimate political project, adding that his supporters were already mobilising across Oyo State for the APC.

‎He appealed for unity within the party, urging members to place collective interest above personal ambition in order to reclaim power in Oyo State and secure victory for all APC candidates in the next general elections.

Also present at the event was the senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, who urged party members and stakeholders to support Oseni, describing him as a committed party man with strong grassroots appeal.

‎Alli said, “Oseni has shown capacity and dedication in his current role. I encourage party faithful and the people of Oyo South to support him as he seeks to serve at a higher level.”

The lawmaker representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Akinmoyede Olafisoye Wasiu, popularly known as Lafi, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 House of Representatives election after defeating two rivals in the party’s primary election.

Lafi secured victory in the keenly contested exercise held on Saturday,  defeating Hon. Sulaiman Hamidu Ajibade and Hon. Danladi Ajao Wasiu by a wide margin to clinch the party’s ticket.

The primary election, conducted across the 26 wards in Akinyele and Lagelu Local Government Areas of Oyo State, witnessed a large turnout of party members amid what observers described as a peaceful and orderly process.

The incumbent lawmaker, who is serving his first term in the National Assembly, reportedly garnered overwhelming support from party faithful  whom cited his performance in office and commitment to grassroots development as reasons for backing his re-election bid.

Some party members who spoke with journalists shortly after the announcement of the results said the outcome reflected the confidence reposed in the lawmaker by constituents.

“Our decision to support him is based on his proven capacity for effective representation, accessibility and unwavering commitment to the unity and growth of the party,” one of the party members said.

Others also commended the federal lawmaker’s empowerment initiatives and constituency engagements, describing them as major factors that shaped the outcome of the exercise.

2027: APC Perfects Consensus Strategy for Oyo

Published

on

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday held a high-level strategic meeting with the Oyo State chapter of the party as part of efforts to reposition the APC for victory and prevent internal crisis ahead of the polls.

The development was first scooped by OYOINSIGHT.COM which quoted multiple party sources familiar with the closed-door deliberations.

Sources disclosed that the meeting, held in Abuja, focused largely on a consensus arrangement being considered by stakeholders of the party in Oyo State, in line with political templates reportedly being adopted in Lagos and Ogun states ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Party insiders said the move was aimed at strengthening unity within the fold of the opposition party in the state, minimising rancour during the primaries and presenting a formidable front against rival parties in 2027.

It was further gathered that some members of the state executive committee may have been subtly informed about preferred consensus candidates being considered for elective positions across the state.

Though details of the deliberations were still sketchy as of press time, sources hinted that the national leadership stressed the need for cohesion, discipline and strategic alignment among stakeholders to improve the party’s electoral fortunes in Oyo.

Those at the meeting included the Oyo APC Chairman, Moses Alake Adeyemo; the state secretary, Fatai Adesina Adeniyi; the Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare; the Organising Secretary, Aderemi Adepoju; and the Legal Adviser, Sunday Aborisade.

Others were the Women Leader, Adekemi Opatunde; the Youth Leader, Olalekan Oladejo; Joshua Oyebamiji; Tunde Oloyede; Sunday Babalola; Joseph Omoniyi; and Mojeed Adebayo.

As of the time of filing this report, the party had yet to issue an official statement on the outcome of the meeting.

2027: Oyo APC Set for Credible Direct Primaries, Says Alake Adeyemo

Published

on

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, on Monday assured aspirants and party members that the party would conduct transparent, peaceful and credible direct primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adeyemo declared that no aspirant would be victimised or denied a level playing field, stressing that the party leadership remained committed to internal democracy and progressive ideals.

The former deputy governor spoke while receiving members of the APC Screening and Appeal Committees deployed from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

He disclosed that although the party initially explored consensus arrangements across elective positions, prevailing realities indicated that direct primaries would be conducted in some areas, including the governorship contest.

Adeyemo said the party had already put necessary structures in place to ensure a hitch-free exercise capable of strengthening unity within the APC.

He said: “We set machineries in motion for us to achieve the aim of consensus across board but reports available to me indicate that we would have to go by the second option which is direct primary in certain cases including the governorship ticket.

“To this end, we shall work towards organising free, fair and credible exercise in all the affected areas even as we cannot rule out the possibility of some aspirants having a rethink and supporting the consensus arrangement as necessary.

“Where we have more than an aspirant, Abuja would send people to conduct primaries and we at the state level would provide the required support to make everything work out in the interest of our great party.”

The APC chairman explained that all registered party members would participate fully in the exercise at their respective wards on dates to be announced by the National Secretariat.

According to him, affirmation would be adopted in areas where consensus candidates emerge, while voting would be conducted wherever direct primaries become necessary.

“For consensus, members will lend their voices for affirmation while voting will be done in the cases of direct primary,” he added.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Screening Committee and former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Taofiq AbdusSalam, assured party faithful that the committee would carry out a thorough, transparent and unbiased screening process.

He said only eligible aspirants would be cleared to participate in the primaries and eventually fly the APC flag in the forthcoming elections.

Other members of the Screening Committee are Kamal Sanusi (Secretary), Smart Oluwole, Tunde Kolade and Olabamiji Agunloye.

Members of the Screening Appeal Committee are Jibola Oduwole (Chairman), Abimbola Jack (Secretary) and Jelil Jimoh.
