2027: Bunvic Has Edge in Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Reps Race – Agbomojo

Published

on

A political observer and public affairs commentator in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Oladejo Ezekiel Agbomojo, has said former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olusegun Dokun Odebunmi, popularly known as Bunvic, is currently better positioned than other aspirants to reclaim the Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general election.

Agbomojo, who is from Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State, stressed that he is not a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his position was based on his independent assessment of the political atmosphere in the constituency and feedback gathered from residents, community leaders and other stakeholders.

Speaking on political developments ahead of the 2027 general election, Agbomojo said Bunvic’s experience, grassroots acceptance and long-standing relationship with the people had given him an advantage over other aspirants seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives.

According to him, the former lawmaker’s previous tenure in the Green Chamber provided him with the legislative experience and understanding required to address the developmental needs of the constituency.

He also identified Bunvic’s relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as one of his major political strengths, expressing optimism that such ties could facilitate the attraction of more federal projects, appointments and developmental opportunities to Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency if elected.

Agbomojo further commended Yeyeluwa Toyin Odebunmi, wife of the APC candidate, describing her as a compassionate woman whose humanitarian interventions have continued to earn admiration across the constituency and beyond.

He said her empowerment and outreach programmes have impacted women, youths, students and other vulnerable groups in different communities, adding that her activities have complemented her husband’s political efforts and further strengthened his acceptance among the electorate.

He also attributed Bunvic’s growing political advantage to what he described as renewed unity within the APC.

According to him, the cordial relationship between Bunvic and respected party leaders, including Senator Ayo Adeseun, as well as the emergence of the APC deputy governorship candidate from Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency, had further boosted the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

Describing Bunvic as one of the most accessible and generous politicians in the Ogbomoso zone, Agbomojo said the former lawmaker had remained close to the people and consistently demonstrated a willingness to support individuals and communities whenever the opportunity arose. He added that his interactions with residents across the constituency indicated a growing belief that Bunvic deserved another opportunity to represent them at the Green Chamber.

“I am not speaking as an APC member because I am not one. This is simply my personal opinion based on what I have observed and the views I have heard from many people across Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa,” he said.

“From my interactions with residents, many believe Bunvic has the experience, the political connections and the grassroots support needed to represent the constituency effectively once again,” he added.

While expressing confidence in Bunvic’s chances, Agbomojo urged the former lawmaker to place greater emphasis on tackling youth unemployment if elected. He acknowledged Bunvic’s previous empowerment initiatives but maintained that sustainable job creation should remain one of his major priorities.

“Hon. Bunvic has done well in supporting young people through different empowerment initiatives, and I acknowledge those efforts. However, I want him to place even greater emphasis on employment generation because many of our youths are still searching for jobs. Creating sustainable employment opportunities should remain one of his major priorities if elected,” he said.

Agbomojo also called for increased Federal Government presence in Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency through the establishment of more federal institutions, infrastructure projects and programmes capable of creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. He said attracting more federal projects would not only improve residents’ standard of living but also create opportunities for young people and local businesses.

“I strongly believe Hon. Bunvic has what it takes to attract meaningful federal projects because of his experience, his relationships within government and his understanding of the needs of our people. What Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency needs now is greater federal presence, improved infrastructure and more employment opportunities for our youths,” he stressed  while maintaining that his views were entirely personal.

He, however, said the electorate would have the final say, urging political actors to conduct peaceful, issue-based campaigns that would promote the development and prosperity of Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency.

More Money, More Hunger: Alli Campaign Organisation Queries Makinde

Published

Gov. Seyi Makinde

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation has challenged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to explain why hunger remains a major concern in the state despite his admission that the state is now receiving more money from the Federation Account.

The organisation said the governor’s statement exposed a contradiction in the management of the state’s finances, asking who else should be held responsible for deploying increased revenue to improve the welfare of Oyo residents.

Makinde had, while speaking in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday, acknowledged that states were receiving more money from the Federation Account but said the increase had not translated into a reduction in hunger.

Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, the campaign organisation said the governor’s admission should prompt serious questions about how the additional funds accruing to Oyo State were being utilised.

The statement, signed by the organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, said it was contradictory for Makinde to acknowledge increased revenue and, at the same time, complain that hunger had not reduced.

“If you have acknowledged that monthly, you have been getting more money from the Federation Account, who are you expecting to come and help you to fight hunger in your state? Is it President Tinubu?” the organisation asked.

The group said the increase in federal allocations was partly a consequence of the economic reforms of the President Bola Tinubu administration, adding that states receiving more revenue should also be accountable for how such funds are used.

It said the responsibility of providing basic services and implementing state-level interventions to cushion economic hardship could not simply be transferred to the Federal Government.

The Alli campaign organisation also renewed its criticism of Makinde’s position on local government autonomy, alleging that the governor had resisted efforts to give councils greater financial independence.

According to the organisation, allowing local governments to function effectively would bring governance and development closer to the people at the grassroots.

The group described the situation in Oyo as a matter that should concern every resident, arguing that increased public revenue ought to generate corresponding improvements in the lives of citizens.

It said the controversy over allocations, hunger and local government autonomy would remain part of the issues it would place before the people of Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The organisation further said the people of the state would have the opportunity to decide the direction of governance in Oyo State at the next election.

Oyo Obedient Leader Leads Supporters to APC, Backs Alli, Oseni , Others

Published

The leader of the Obedient Movement in Oyo State, Sunday Oni, has dumped the Labour Party (LP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oni, who led thousands of his supporters into the APC, also pledged to mobilise support for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made this known on Wednesday in Ibadan while formally declaring his support for the APC.

The former Labour Party stalwart was received into the party by the APC state chairman, Moses Adeyemo; the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli; the party’s candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Aderemi Oseni, and other leaders of the party.

Explaining his decision, Oni said his experience following the political alliance that supported Governor Seyi Makinde in the 2023 election contributed to his decision to leave the Labour Party.

He alleged that members of the Labour Party who participated in the alliance were left disappointed after the election, claiming that agreements reached with them were not fulfilled.

Oni said the Obedient Movement had demonstrated its organisational strength during the 2023 presidential election through its support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

He, however, said the movement would now deploy its mobilisation structure in support of APC candidates in 2027.

He said, “Everyone out there appreciates the fact that our Obedient Movement is strong and virile, going by what we were able to do for the LP presidential candidate in 2023, Mr Peter Obi, despite all odds.

“But this time round, our efforts will be channelled to the cause of all APC candidates, including President Bola Tinubu, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Hon Remi Oseni and all others.

“We are swinging into action immediately. The crowd of LP and Obedient Movement members you are seeing here is just a small fraction of our entire population, which cuts across the 33 local government councils in the state.

“We are not here for the fun of it. We are poised to add value and our impact shall be greatly felt in the areas of mobilisation and sensitisation of voters in favour of the APC.”

Speaking at the event, Alli welcomed Oni and his supporters into the APC, describing their decision to join the party as a significant step.

He said the APC was open to people from different political backgrounds who were interested in contributing to governance and development.

Alli also spoke about his plans for Oyo State if elected governor in 2027, promising greater participation of young people in his administration.

He said, “Apart from the fact that I grew up on the streets of Ibadan, I have always been conversant with happenings in our dear state in close to 50 years of my adult life.

“With my high level of experience, expertise and zeal, Oyo State under me as governor from May 29, 2027, would witness a great measure of turnaround.”

The APC governorship candidate also promised to give attention to young people, workers, pensioners and other groups in the state.

He said his running mate, Adesoji Adedeji, would be given the opportunity to play an active role in addressing issues affecting the youth population.

The event was attended by several APC leaders, including former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Asimiyu Niran Alarape; Taofeek Lamidi; Fatai Adesina; Adekemi Opatunde; Yemi Aderibigbe; Sola Ogunbode; Olawale Sadare; Tunde Oloyede; Shina Alabi; Sunday Aborisade; Tunde Elegbede and Olalekan Oladejo.

Olopoeyan: ‘I May Back APC’s Oseni Against Odidiomo for Oyo South’

Published

on

A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has disclosed that he may support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, against his party’s candidate, Hon. Stanley Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo, in the 2027 election.

‎Olopoeyan hinged his position on his longstanding personal relationship with Oseni, saying the relationship existed long before he met Odidiomo.

The APM chieftain spoke in Yoruba during an interview with Peter Olasupo, popularly known as Captain P2, at his residence.

‎According to him, Oseni had remained in touch with him over the years, regularly visiting him and identifying with him during important personal occasions.

‎“Mo ti mo Remi Oseni ki Odidiomo to mo mi,” he said.

‎Translated, the statement means: “I have known Remi Oseni before Odidiomo. He attends my personal events. So, I know him very well.”

Olopoeyan said his possible support for Oseni was therefore rooted in a relationship that had continued beyond political calculations.

‎“I may support Remi Oseni against Odidiomo,” he stated.

‎He said his relationship with Odidiomo was different, alleging that the APM senatorial candidate had neither visited nor maintained meaningful contact with him since emerging as the party’s candidate for Oyo South.

‎Olopoeyan added that the relationship between them had not been particularly strong even before Odidiomo’s emergence as the senatorial candidate.

‎The APM chieftain, however, made it clear that his position on the Oyo South contest should not be interpreted as a rejection of the party or a fallout with its other candidates.

‎He described the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his brother, saying they had a cordial relationship and that he had no personal problem with him.

‎Olopoeyan also spoke warmly about the party’s Oyo Central Senatorial District candidate, Ajadi, describing him as a good man who had been consulting stakeholders and reaching out to people at the grassroots.

‎“He has been moving around and consulting with people. He does not sideline anybody,” he said, wishing the candidate well.

Rejecting suggestions that he was an aggrieved member of the APM, Olopoeyan insisted that he remained firmly rooted in the party.

‎“I am not an aggrieved person in the party. The structure is with me, not Governor Makinde,” he declared.
