The Nigerian government has reacted to report making the rounds on social media that Leah Sharibu, one of the abducted Dapchi school girls was dead.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at a press conference on Sunday in Ilorin, Kwara State, described the report as ‘absolute fake news’

He blamed the news as a ploy by the opposition party to dent the image of APC just few days to presidential election.

He said: “It’s absolutely fake news. There is nothing like that

“The rumour of Miss Sharibu’s death, which surfaced just a few days to the presidential election, is another ploy by the political opposition to tarnish the image of the administration and exploit primordial sentiments ahead of the polls.

“I think it’s part of the opposition’s strategies to throw everything at the administration and at the President. I think everyday they are realising the hopelessness of their position.

“Everyday, they are amazed by the support Mr. President is receiving from every part of the country and they have decided that they are going to spread falsehood, inflame passion and make this election a Muslim-Christian affair or North-South affair, but people are not listening to them.”

2027: Sowore Declares War on Corruption, Clinches AAC Presidential Ticket

Published

Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has officially emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general elections, following the party’s presidential primaries held on Tuesday in Abuja.

The development marks Sowore’s third consecutive bid for the presidency under the party he founded, underscoring his persistence in offering Nigerians an alternative to the nation’s mainstream political landscape.

In a statement during the primaries, Kayode Babayemi, chairman of the AAC primary election committee, said Sowore’s adoption reflected the party’s confidence in his commitment to justice, democracy, and good governance.

Accepting his nomination, Sowore described the AAC as “the only genuine opposition in Nigeria”.

He declared, “This year, our party turns eight years old. As the only registered socialist party in Nigeria, we have stood firm as a moral and ideological alternative to the criminal conspiracy that other parties disguise as democracy.”

He added, “This is the party of the most courageous people on the continent. We are unafraid and unwavering. We speak the truth as it is, regardless of whose ox is gored.”

Sowore vowed to address Nigeria’s unemployment, corruption, incompetence, and rising crime, insisting that the AAC remains committed to offering Nigerians a credible path to revolutionary change.

He dismissed claims that the party lacked structure, noting that delegates from across the country demonstrated the AAC’s functional nationwide network.

Following the primaries, Sowore formally stepped down as the AAC national chairman, paving the way for new leadership.

The party announced on its official X handle: “Omoyele Sowore has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC). The party hereby welcomes Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of our great party.”

‘Who Rules Oyo in 2027 Will Be Decided by the People, Not My Name’ –  Olubadan

Published

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Rasidi Ladoja, has made it clear that the antecedents and popularity of politicians aspiring to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election will determine their victory, not the mere invocation of his name.

Speaking with journalists at his Bodija residence after leading prayers for Eid-el-Kabir, Oba Ladoja noted that many aspirants had been campaigning using his name.

However, he stressed that the final choice rests with the people.

“Let them use my name to promote themselves if it is meaningful to them. But at the end of the day, it is the people who will decide who rules them, not my name,” he said, describing all politicians in the state as his children.

The monarch also expressed deep concern over the abduction of 39 pupils and teachers in communities in Oriire Local Government Area.

He assured that security agencies and government officials were working behind the scenes to secure their release.

“Government and security agencies are doing their best. It’s just that they cannot reveal their operations for security reasons,” Oba Ladoja added.

On the issue of land disputes, the Olubadan warned that land grabbing in Ibadanland will no longer be tolerated. He urged residents to respect traditional laws and desist from illegal acquisition of land.
