Osogbo: Old students celebrate 71st anniversary, donate projects worth N5.2m to alma mater

President, Osogbo Grammar School Alumni, Prof Micheal Ologunde, Commissioner for Education, Hon Folorunsho Bamisayemi, Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Education, Mr Jamiu Olawumi during the commissioning of ten classrooms renovated by alumni of Osogbo Grammar School on Saturday.

The Osogbo Grammar School Alumni Association (OGSAA) in Osun state, last Saturday, made various donations to support their alma mater – Osogbo Grammar School, as part of activities to mark their 71st anniversary.

Projects donated by the alumni included ten blocks of classrooms as a well as a library.

The old students, also launched a book on history of Osogbo Grammar School.

Speaking at the event, the Osun state governor, Alhaji  Adegboyega Oyetola, lauded the old students for the gesture.

The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Hon. Folorunsho Bamisayemi, further noted that the gesture will boost the academic, moral and ethical standards of the students.

Earlier in his address, the National President of the association, Prof. Micheal Ologunde said, “When I was at the school between 1967 and 1971 we had a very nice environment and structures but over the years due to lack of attention, most of the classrooms and buildings in the school became dilapidated”.

Ologunde continued, “we embarked on the rehabilitation of 10 classrooms and a library. We will not stop at what we are doing but contribute more to the development of our school.

“What I realize is that the state government can not do everything but we must help the school; we put everything together at the rate of N5.2 million”, the president concluded.

Also speaking, the principal of the school, Mrs. Ajasegun Aluko thanked the association, saying the gesture would not only create a friendlier environment for teaching, but also enhance the learning of the students.
