Opinion: Oyo APC’s march towards perdition, a need for caution

Irked by the ongoing unpleasant scenarios within the rank and file of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo state, one is constrained to sound a note of warning to the warring groups and individuals.

Perhaps, such intervention can avert the looming dangers of permanent damages to the party. The despicable acts perpetrated by some selfish groups and individuals with an intent to control the party structure in their grand plan to clinch the party tickets as candidates of the party against the 2023 general elections is the main cause of the ‘roforofo’  fights which have bedeviled the party.

Greed, avarice and intolerance on the parts of the bellingrents are in serious display. I knew of some people who had held the party’s executive positions for more than eight years, but, still clamouring to be considered for more services within the party.

Whenever such greedy lots were challenged as to what informed their decisions to retain their positions, the answer was that the party’s constitution allows for it. Is it everything that is legally right is morally defensible? No! Yet, we often have the guts to condemn the sit tight leaders in government who often prefer staying on the corridors of power in perpetuity.

A house that divides against itself shall fall. The present state of APC in Oyo state is appalling and requires the urgent intervention from the top to save it from the impending doom. Possibly, the caretaker committee should be put in place to overhaul the party’s structure from the bottom to the top.

All the congresses which had been conducted thus far are laden with fraud, lopsidedness and other absurdities which can not assist the party’s growth and development to acquire electoral fortunes.

By now, the party should be  carrying out enlightenment campaigns as to the achievements of the APC controlled federal government, but, now grappling with internal skirmishes. How do we convince the electorate about certain misgivings and misconceptions as regards the stewardships of our representatives in government at all levels.

It is a paradox of tragic proportion that the leaders who are being looked upon to salvage the party are the ones singing discordant tunes having benefited some pecuniary gains and filthy lucres from desperados within the house. This festering crisis is capable of causing a total disintegration of the party.

The consequences are far reaching. One, it places other parties at vantage positions to gain defectors in the ensuing realignment of forces as we are approaching another election cycle. Two, the party becomes decimated and unable to win future elections. He who have ears should listen.

The present crop of leaders in Oyo state APC does not have the required administrative capacity to rescue the party from the present quagmire. The unfortunate reason is that they are all partisan in favour of those jostling for the gubernatorial tickets. Three, undue external interventions from outside the state by some forces who are desirous of expanding their political frontiers unsettles the rank and file of the party.

Yes, it is indubitable that some groups and individuals does not have confidence in the neutrality of the national headquarters of the party, but, same possesses the ultimate coercive power to do the needful with the objective of saving the party from going on perdition. Above all, it is saddening that we can’t manage our crises in Oyo state despite the presence of accomplished citizens in all endeavours of life within the party.

It is a big shame!
