INEC constructs ramps, provides other aids for people with disabilities in Toro bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided ramps, magnifying glasses and other aids to assist Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) cast their votes in the Toro federal constituency bye-election holding on Saturday in Bauchi state.

Ya’u Abdulmumini, Toro local government chairman of Joint Association of People with Disability (JONAPWD), confirmed this today while speaking to journalists.

He said the body had mobilised its members to come out ‎and exercise their civic rights by participating fully in the bye-election as well as the 2019 general elections.

According to him, INEC has provided ramps of various sizes to provide a raised platform for their lame members to climb and cast their votes.

Abdulmumini further informed that magnifying glasses have also been provided for Visually Impaired persons to enable them see well to thumbprint and cast their votes.

Also speaking, Bauchi State INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the commission provided the materials used by People Living With Disabilities so that they will not be disenfranchised.

He said some of them have also been employed as Adhoc staff in the bye-election to assist their members vote.

According to him, clusters for People ‎Living With Disabilities were created at Magama, Miya Barkate and Tilden Fulani while a cluster for Albinos was formed at Bargan Fulani.
