He said, “I want to use this medium to commend Chief Dotun Sanusi for this kind gesture. There is no doubt, this vehicle donated by Chief Dotun Sanusi to our vigilante group on behalf of Oyo State government will go a long way in making our state to continue to enjoy the relative peace it is known for.

“From my record, this is not the first vehicle donated by Chief Sanusi to the vigilante group with a view to ensuring that peace continue to reign in Oyo State. It shows the kind of heart he has and his love for this State.

“There is no doubt that this is a welcome development and this is what the state government has always been advocating for; security is not something that should be left for government alone. We want to use this opportunity to appeal to other wealth-to-do people like Chief Sanusi to take a cue from him and join hands with Governor Seyi Makinde-led government with a view to making Oyo State a peaceful one ,” Owoseni added.

Delivering his appreciation on behalf of other members of his group, Comrade Omotosho lauded Chief Sanusi for constantly providing the needs of his members saying that the car given to them will go a long way in aiding their mobility within and outside Ibadan.

He stated further that with the Car in their custody they will re-double their efforts and ensure that insecurity is reduced to the barest minimum in the state.

Fielding questions from the newsmen in attendance during the handing over, Dr. Nureni Ajijolaanobi, President Soludero Vigilante Group, eulogised Chief Sanusi for standing by the group during the thin and thick period, stressing that, besides the financial contributions by Sanusi to the group, he has always seen to the welfare of the group’s members which according to him has encouraged them to give their all.

“A lot of people need to know that our father, Chief Sanusi has done a lot for us. During any crisis period, beside giving us money to take care of our welfare, he always call us to ask after our safety.

“He donated a vehicle to us sometimes last year and even after that he has seen to our feeding and welfare. We want to appeal to other wealthy people to emulate his character. There are quite a lot of things that he does for us that no one knows about it. With this new vehicle, the residents of this state should forget about kidnappers and bandits. We would flush them out wherever they are.

“We also want to appreciate our governor too. He has absorbed us into the security system of this state and this is the reason why we shall continue to double our efforts targeted peaceful coexistence of good people of Oyo state.

It will be recalled that Chief Sanusi was formally the Patron of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRS), Oyo State Command before he was installed as the Grand Patron of the command during his birthday celebration last year October.

The political and academic communities in Nigeria were thrown into mourning on Sunday following the death of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the old Oyo State.

Dr. Olunloyo, a distinguished mathematician, seasoned politician, and elder statesman, died in the early hours of Sunday after reportedly battling age-related ailments. He was aged 89 and would have clocked 90 in about three months.

Born into the aristocratic Olunloyo family of Ibadan, the late statesman made history in 1983 when he was elected governor of the old Oyo State under the platform of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN). His tenure, however, was short-lived as the military coup of December 1983 abruptly ended the Second Republic and consequently his time in office.

Known for his brilliance and sharp intellect, Olunloyo was widely regarded as the first and only individual to have ruled Ibadan as a distinct administrative unit before the restructuring of states in Nigeria.

A family source who confirmed his passing described his final weeks as a period of intense struggle with age-related health complications.

“The family is currently in mourning and will make burial arrangements public in due course,” the source said.
