President Bola Tinubu has called on state governors to justify the massive federal allocations they have received over the past years with tangible development projects, particularly at the grassroots level.

The President, who spoke on Thursday at the National Executive Committee meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja, said despite the huge financial inflows, many Nigerians were still dissatisfied with the pace of development across the country.

He noted that a total of ₦11.195tn was disbursed to states and local government areas by the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee between June 2024 and June 2025.

“We need to do more. Nigerians are still complaining at the grassroots. You, the governors, have to wet the ground and give more dividends of democracy at the grassroots,” Tinubu said.

“We must not rest. Our people need to feel the impact of government more directly.”

A breakdown of the FAAC allocations during the period shows that states received ₦6.492tn, while LGAs got ₦4.704tn.

This is out of a total of ₦27tn shared within the one-year period under review. The Federal Government received ₦6.034tn during the same period.

The President’s remarks came days after the Federal Government announced that it generated ₦14.27tn in tax revenue between January and June 2025, representing a 43 per cent increase from the ₦9.98tn recorded in the first half of 2024.

Tinubu charged APC governors to redouble their efforts in delivering on the party’s promises and meeting the expectations of Nigerians, especially those at the grassroots.
