The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kogi State Command, has confirmed the death of five persons in an accident on the Kabba-Obajana Road in the Kabba Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, State Sector Commander, explained that three persons survived the accident involving a Ford Galaxy space wagon and a Mazda car on Thursday.

Oyedeji attributed the cause of the accident to speeding and wrongful overtaking.

“The head-on collision between the two cars moving in opposite directions happened due to speeding and wrongful overtaking by one of the drivers,” he stated.

“We have been preaching against drivers flouting road safety rules and regulations, yet these motorists hardly heed our warnings. Five persons lost their lives in the accident that left three others seriously injured,” he lamented.

The sector commander disclosed that officers from the command had carried out a rescue operation at the scene of the accident.

“The three injured persons have been moved to the Kabba General Hospital for medical attention. The corpses have been deposited in the mortuary of the same hospital,” Oyedeji confirmed.

He reminded motorists to always endeavour to keep to road safety rules and regulations to avoid road crashes.

Tragic Loss of Four Lives on Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

At least four individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident at the Ugwu Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and involved a collision between a kerosene-laden truck and six other vehicles.

Adeyemi Sokunbi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State, disclosed that the accident occurred between 6:45 pm and 7 pm on June 12.

He attributed the cause of the collision to the failure of the truck’s brakes, which led to it colliding with multiple vehicles on a newly constructed section of the Enugu-Onitsha Federal Highway.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that four lives were lost in this tragic incident,” Sokunbi stated. “The truck’s failure to brake resulted in a chain reaction collision with several vehicles, causing significant damage and loss of lives.”

Sokunbi expressed relief that the truck was transporting kerosene rather than petrol, which would have heightened the risk of fire and further casualties.

He urged all motorists and road users to exercise utmost caution while driving, emphasizing the importance of maintaining vehicles in optimal condition before embarking on journeys.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility,” Sokunbi urged. “We implore everyone to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to prevent such avoidable accidents that claim lives and cause harm to others.”
