England goalkeeper, Jack Butland has backed Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modrić to make the difference for Croatia when they face Nigeria in Saturday’s 2018 World Cup clash at Kaliningrad Stadium.
Butland, who watched from the bench as the Three Lions struggled to beat Gernot Rohr’s men 2-1 in a pre-World Cup friendly played two weeks ago at Wembley, believes Modric is the most important player in Croatia team to make a difference against Eagles.
The Stoke City shot-stopper, however, admitted that Dalić’s men will not have it easy against the three times African champions.
”Nigeria is a good team and nobody would have easy job with them at the start of the tournament, but if Modrić plays as he knows to, if he get some space, he can lead Croatia for the big result,” Butland told reporters including Sportske Novosti.
”Not just in that game, but even much further. We are talking about one of the best midfielders in the world. He makes the difference.”
Croatia are in Group D of this year’s tournament alongside Nigeria, Iceland and Argentina.
The kick off time for the match is 8:00pm.
