The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) on Monday inaugurated its pioneer executive officers at the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede (FEDPA), a move aimed at fostering industrial harmony and strengthening staff–management relations.

‎The event, which drew top management officials and national union leaders, was hailed as a major milestone in the growth of organised labour within the young institution.

‎Speaking at the occasion, SSANIP Vice President, Comrade Ayo Bankole, said the establishment of the union’s chapter at FEDPA reflected a commitment to building enduring, mutually beneficial partnerships with management.

‎“Unionism today goes beyond agitation and confrontation,” Bankole said, “modern labour relations focus on constructive engagement, collaboration, and collective responsibility for institutional growth.”

‎He praised the Rector, Dr Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, for his humility and inclusive leadership, saying such qualities are crucial to sustaining industrial peace.

‎Dr Abdul-Hameed, drawing from over 31 years’ experience in the polytechnic system, described unions as critical stakeholders in staff welfare and institutional development, adding that dialogue and mutual respect remain central to their effectiveness.

‎The Rector also reaffirmed management’s commitment to openness, constructive criticism, and continuous engagement with all recognised unions, while the Registrar, Mr Akin Odesola, described the inauguration as a progressive step for consolidating industrial harmony.

‎Elections for interim executive positions were conducted under the supervision of the SSANIP national leadership. Alhaji Idris Ismail emerged as Chairman with 26 votes out of 46, followed by Comrade Idowu Ayodele as Vice Chairman, and Mr Adewole Aderemi as Public Relations Officer.

‎Other officers included Arch Ishola Maruf (Secretary), Mr Jimoh Adekunle (Assistant Secretary), and Miss Alanu Titilayo (Treasurer).

‎Addressing the new executives, Bankole urged them to see their roles as platforms for service, stressing selflessness, teamwork, and discipline.

‎ The Rector congratulated the officers and assured full cooperation from management to promote peace, progress, and sustainable development.
