Red Star Belgrade stars narrowly avoided a disaster after their open-top bus caught alight as they celebrated winning the SuperLiga title.

The former European Cup winners were parading their record 28th Serbian crown when their vehicle was engulfed in flames and plumes of smoke.

Red Star were travelling from their home ground of Rajko Mitic stadium, where they had earlier thrashed Vozdovac 5-1, to the town of Kalemegdan, in the north of the city.

The route was rammed with fans creating an incredible atmosphere with flares, flags and chants.

The fire is said to have started when a player accidentally set an oil spill alight with a flare.

A video posted by Youtube channel Black and Ginger shows players continuing their celebrations on the top deck of the bus despite the blaze taking hold below them.

Moments later the double decker is seemingly vacated as the inferno created a bonfire effect on the Red Star branded vehicle.

No one was injured in the fire

Despite the incredible images, no one was reported to have been injured and a Red Star spokesman was quoted as saying “there is no reason to worry”.

The club’s Twitter page added: “The celebrations didn’t go 100% according to plan because the open top bus caught fire

“Nobody got injured, which was the most important thing. How very rock ‘n roll.”

The Belgrade side are famed for their pyrotechnic with their last game of the season marked with an amazing colourful smoke bomb display with more flares set off.
