Adebayo Adelabu, the Power Minister and governorship candidate of the Accord Party (AP) in the 2023 election, has formally communicated his decision to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
The announcement is scheduled for December 15, 2023, at the Party Office in Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
In a written notification obtained by Mega Icon Magazine on Thursday and addressed to State Executives and APC leaders, Adelabu expressed his eagerness to re-enter the political fold.
The ceremony is anticipated to be a pivotal moment, anchored by State Executives and attended by Local Government Party Chairmen and Leaders.
Recalling his departure during a tumultuous period marked by crises surrounding the state Congress and Primary Elections, the minister noted that after thoughtful consultations with National Leaders and Executives, he has chosen to return to the APC.
A crucial step in this direction was a courtesy visit to the Party’s National Chairman, where mutual understanding of the importance of his return was reached.
“You will recall that I left the party alongside my faithful and loyal followers at the peak of the crisis rocking the party emanating from the manner the state Congress and consequently the Primary Elections were administered. However, having consulted with our National Leaders and National Executives, I have decided to return to the Party. My first demonstration of this was a courtesy visit to the Party’s National Chairman where we agreed on the imperatives of my return to the party.
“As a serving Minister of Power in the Federal Republic of Nigeria under President Tinubu’s administration, I look forward to a robust working relationship with the State Executive, Party Leaders, and entire party members towards achieving the renewed hope Agenda of Mr. President and the party at large, and in particular, in installing an APC-led Government at the State level in 2027 for unprecedented development in Oyo State,” the letter partly read.
Adelabu, however, pledged commitment to supporting the total rejuvenation and rebirth of APC in the state.
He further expressed his readiness to collaborate with party stakeholders, emphasising the importance of entrenching internal democracy and learning from past mistakes to strengthen the party’s foundation.
The forthcoming ceremony marks a crucial juncture in Oyo State politics, as Adelabu’s return is poised to influence the dynamics of the APC and shape the political landscape leading up to the 2027 elections.
