ATLEAST 615 Principals under Oyo State Post Primary Schools’ Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM who converged at the Lead City University, Ibadan last Friday have been trained on how to employ modern administrative skills useful for day-to-day schools’ administration.
The training programme, packaged by a leading training consulting firm – Prigital Multi-Concept Limited, carefully selected four experienced resource persons who took participants through some key topics which include : Understanding the techniques of modern management in secondary schools, Application of Information Technology for effective record keeping and school management, Understanding School Governing Board (SGB) guidelines and its usefulness, Effective protection of statutory records, security of personnel, security of students and security of schools’ infrastructure.
The Chairman of Oyo TESCOM, Alhaji Bashiru Ajibade led other board members and senior members of the commission to the training programme.
In his address, the TESCOM Chief tasked all participants particularly the newly recruited Principals to be resourceful and always be above board.
Ajibade, however assured that more teaching and non-teaching staff of the commission would be trained by the present administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The lead Consultant at Prigital Multi-Concept Limited, while welcoming participants, emphasized on regular training and retraining of school administrators and other personnel in the public/civil service, stressing that this is the catalyst needed for improved productivity amongst civil/public servants.
Also, in his welcome address, the President of ANCOPSS in Oyo State, Mr. E.O. Aremu who also delivered a paper titled “Understanding School Governing Board (SGB) guidelines and its usefulness”, tasked participants to always be open, dedicated, and ready to learn new skills daily as this will no doubt assist them to serve and lead better.
He, therefore, noted as a costly omission the non-inclusion of TESCOM in the SGB Act thereby making it inconclusive since the employer is still “missing in action”
One of the Newly Appointed Principals from Ibadan zone who pleaded anonymity thanked the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for approving the appointment of new principals to fill vacancies throughout the six zones of the commission.
Another newly appointed principal from Saki zone stated that the programme was rich and should be regular to serve as guide to Principals in the smooth running of their schools.
