Published

The Olatoye Sugar Memorial Foundation (OSMF) on Saturday declared that the late Hon. Temitope Olatoye Sugar sacrificed his life for the overall interest of the state, particularly the emergence of the incumbent governor of Oyo State, Engr.  Seyi Makinde.

Temi Tope Sugar represented Lagelu/Akinleye constituency of Oyo State in the federal House of Representatives, between 2015-2019.

Speaking with the Southwest Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, the foundation expressed astonishment at the manner in which the late lawmaker gave up his soul in the interest of Governor Makinde’s emergence.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Hon. Olajide Olatoye popularly addressed as ‘Big Daddy’ by his numerous fans,  Director of Operations and Strategies, Mr. Dotun Olatoye and its National Patron, Hon.  Abiodun Badmus amplified that the late Temitope Sugar sacrificed  his life for the governor.

According to them, “it is imperative to commend late Hon. Temitope  Sugar because he has proved beyond doubt that his love for the state and Governor Makinde is boundless. Not every politician can do what he has done.

“We have our evidences. Though, after his demise, because of their  parochial ambitions,  they said we worked for the All Progress Congress (APC). We were among the founders of the PDP during the days of  Baba Adedibu.

“Late Sugar and Hon. Kamil Akinlabi, the present chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) were the two giants in Oyo ADP”.

While commending the ex-federal House of Representatives member, Hon. Akinlabi for establishing the fact that the late Sugar and his political dynasty contributed constructively, effectively and positively to the emergence of the present Governor Seyi Makinde led administration in the state, they added that the late lawmaker, Sugar convinced him to work for the PDP.

“Hon. Akinlabi had, on several occasions confirmed that the late Sugar convinced him to work for Governor Makinde and the PDP during the 2019 elections .

“In fact, he disclosed that the late Sugar called him  on the election  day, compelling him to  support Governor Makinde and sent an additional  N1,000,000  to him, which  he showed the governor the alert.

Speaking further, they recalled that”, on that faithful day, Sugar was  called by a PDP state Assembly nominee alerting him on the ongoing rigging at Lalupon wards housed by Lagelu Local Government. He was on his way to rescue the situation when he was killed “.

They maintained that the political dynasty across the state are united, adding that the foundation has been working in line with the dream of the founder, late  Temitope Olatoye.

The political dynasty paid a glowing tribute to  the  Seyi Makinde-led Oyo PDP government, disclosing that it will officially joined the People Democratic Party, (PDP) at the local government level on Thursday having earlier joined at the state level.

“The Governor has been fair to us. We have been given invitation several times. We have had numerous meetings and discussions and he has promised us. Although, as we speak, there is no member of Olatoye Temitope Sugar family or foundation that has gotten appointment. There is no rancour within the family and foundation as to who will take what. We are ready for any when called upon, we are one.

“A lot of people will wander why we are still staying in the party despite this. There are just two political parties. The multi party system we are running, we are only deceiving ourselves. In reality, we have PDP or APC.

“To be honest with you, we still believe strongly that our ideology go along with that of the PDP as we speak and that’s why we are in alignment with the PDP government-led by the Governor Seyi Makinde. There is a good rapport between us and we strongly believe that we won’t be disappointed.

“Having joined at the state level, we have instructed our members at all levels to go and join the PDP. And on Thursday, we will declare at Lagelu local government being the headquarters of Olatoye Sugar foundation. Leaders of the party across board, high profile state government personalities will also be present. If not for Ondo election, the Governor would have been there but certain critical members of the cabinet will be there”, the foundation submitted.

Former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has made startling claims regarding alleged manipulations and fraudulent activities during the previous administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Despite serving as a minister under Buhari’s government, Shittu has voiced concerns over what he perceives as individuals close to the former Nigerian president exploiting their positions for personal gain, resulting in adverse effects on the country’s economy.

In an interview on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, monitored by Mega Icon Magazine, the ex-minister asserted, “Let me tell you, there were a lot of manipulations and we even heard that a lot of the so-called approvals did not emanate from President Buhari.”

He addressed allegations circulating about the previous government resorting to printing money to sustain the economy, stating, “There were a lot of manipulations and fraudulent approvals which did not emanate from the President.”

Shittu remained resolute in his claims, emphasising, “I am telling you confidently that a lot of it did not get his attention.”

He further alleged, “There were a lot of people around the President who exploited their relationship with the President and conspired with the then-CBN governor.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin was Tuesday sworn into office at a lavish Kremlin ceremony for a record-breaking fifth term with more power than ever before.

The 71-year-old has ruled Russia since the turn of the century, securing a fresh six-year mandate in March after winning presidential elections devoid of all opposition.

In his inauguration speech, Putin said that Russia would emerge from the current “difficult” period victorious and stronger, as he took power for a record fifth presidential term.

“We will pass through this difficult, decisive period with dignity and become even stronger,” Putin said at his inauguration ceremony at the Kremlin, attended by an AFP journalist.

“We are a united and great nation,” Putin said in an upbeat speech, to applause from an audience of around 2,500 people including officials and military top brass.

“Together we will overcome all obstacles, achieve everything we have planned, and together we will win,” he said.

He said after being sworn into office that he viewed the presidency as a “huge honour, responsibility and sacred duty”.

The Russian leader vowed to ensure “sustained and stable development, unity and independence of the country”.

Putin thanked soldiers taking part in what Russia calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, more than two years after it began on February 24, 2022, at a ceremony attended by some of those fighting.

“We are looking forward confidently,” Putin stressed in his speech, which was aired on national television.

Evoking the country’s “thousand-year history” as he spoke in the Kremlin’s gilded St Andrew’s Hall, the president said that present-day Russians owed a debt to previous generations who achieved “such triumphs that inspire us today”.

He said Russians shared a “firm conviction that we ourselves alone will determine the fate of Russia for the sake of present and future generations”.

Russia is “not refusing dialogue with western states” and is ready to talk about “questions of security and strategic stability”, Putin said, “but only on equal terms, respecting the interests of each other”.
