Oyo Guber Tribunal:Results of parties not correctly recorded, witness tells tribunal

As the on going Oyo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is gradually reaching an interesting stage, the All Progressives Congress (APC) prosecution witness Abiola Ashiru has told the tribunal that majority of recorded votes for the parties in the poll were incorrect.

The prosecution witness stated this on Monday while being  examined by the counsel to the Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC) Mr Kehinde Akinlolu.

Mr Ashiru, who was the agent of APC in Ward 5 polling unit 4 in Oyo East Local government Area of the state explained that the total number of votes cast was 304 as against 302 recorded in the form.

He stressed that the accredited voters was 309 while votes rejected were five, totalling the number of votes cast by the political parties to be 304 and not 302 recorded by INEC.

Mr Ashiru also told to the tribunal that he disagree with what was recorded in the result sheet as 93 votes was recorded for APC instead of 97 votes counted on election day.

Asking if he signed the result sheet, the prosecution witness said he signed the form in order to collect his copy of the result sheet.

In a related development,  another prosecution witness, Mrs Kafayat Iyiola from Kajola Local Government said that the exercise was marred by violence in some parts of her council area.

In his response shortly after the tribunal sitting, the Publicity Secretary of APC in Ibadan South East Local Government,  Mr Femi Awogboro said with the evidences from prosecution witnesses there is no doubt that the exercise was not credible.

He added that  the decision of APC to approach the election tribunal was due to sharp practices perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  in conjunction with INEC.

The election tribunal led by Justice Sirajo Muhammed is expected to receive more prosecution witnesses from Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state as sitting progresses in its constitutional duty on Tuesday 25th June.
