Oyo APC gives pass mark to Ajimobi

Published

on

THE All Progressives Congress, APC in Oyo State has given a pass mark to Governor Abiola Ajimobi “on account of responsiveness to the yearnings of the people despite paucity of funds occasioned by the instability of the nation’s economy”.

The party added that the governor has excelled in purposeful governance.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olawale Sadare, APC noted with delight that the renewed cordial relationship between the state government and its workers in the civil service as a result of the governor’s spirited efforts which have yielded the payment of arrears of salaries and allowances to almost all the workers.

According to the statement, ” it took rare courage, management expertise and commitment on the part of Governor Ajimobi to pay workers up till November, 2017 thereby owing them just December salaries after the same people were owed about six months in arrears of salary early last year. It is recalled that the circumstances that brought about inability to pay staff salaries as at when due started in May 2014 during the Goodluck Jonathan era and some states are still enmeshed in it.

“During the Interdenominational Service organized by the state government to usher in the new year, thousands of workers in the state civil service were full of praise for the governor who they described as their best friend. It was all encomiums for Governor Ajimobi since the workers could not hide their joy over the settlement of the backlog of arrears of salaries in the last few months.

“In the same vein, Governor Ajimobi demonstrated his resolve to extend the same Olive branch to those in the employ of state-owned tertiary institutions at the inauguration of the schools’ governing boards on Tuesday. The first task he gave the appointees was to come up with initiative that facilitate prompt payment of salaries and allowances to the lecturers and other category of staff. This is commendable.

“Furthermore, we must commend the Ajimobi administration’s Zero Tolerance for Potholes initiative which has attracted the attention of relevant agencies to the fixing and rehabilitation of some bad portions of public roads in most towns and cities across the state. This is coming at the same time when major dualization and construction of major roads is being intensified to improve road infrastructure state-wide.

“There is no denying the fact that the Pacesetters State has been turned to a construction site in the last six months to the admiration of the discerning indigenes and residents of the state. This has earned Sen. Ajimobi a reputation as having excelled in the areas of restoration, repositioning and transformation as far as Oyo State is concerned. The majority opinion is that he is the best in the history of the state when it comes to offer of purposeful governance by any governor.

“However, we are making a passionate appeal to Governor Ajimobi to begin the implementation of the recently concluded master plan of Ibadan-the state capital by re-introducing the various beautification projects he did in his first term and also ensure that those frustrating the efforts to rid our major cities of dirt and refuse are checkmated”, the statement added.

Former Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has made startling claims regarding alleged manipulations and fraudulent activities during the previous administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Despite serving as a minister under Buhari’s government, Shittu has voiced concerns over what he perceives as individuals close to the former Nigerian president exploiting their positions for personal gain, resulting in adverse effects on the country’s economy.

In an interview on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, monitored by Mega Icon Magazine, the ex-minister asserted, “Let me tell you, there were a lot of manipulations and we even heard that a lot of the so-called approvals did not emanate from President Buhari.”

He addressed allegations circulating about the previous government resorting to printing money to sustain the economy, stating, “There were a lot of manipulations and fraudulent approvals which did not emanate from the President.”

Shittu remained resolute in his claims, emphasising, “I am telling you confidently that a lot of it did not get his attention.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin was Tuesday sworn into office at a lavish Kremlin ceremony for a record-breaking fifth term with more power than ever before.

The 71-year-old has ruled Russia since the turn of the century, securing a fresh six-year mandate in March after winning presidential elections devoid of all opposition.

In his inauguration speech, Putin said that Russia would emerge from the current “difficult” period victorious and stronger, as he took power for a record fifth presidential term.

“We will pass through this difficult, decisive period with dignity and become even stronger,” Putin said at his inauguration ceremony at the Kremlin, attended by an AFP journalist.

“We are a united and great nation,” Putin said in an upbeat speech, to applause from an audience of around 2,500 people including officials and military top brass.

“Together we will overcome all obstacles, achieve everything we have planned, and together we will win,” he said.

He said after being sworn into office that he viewed the presidency as a “huge honour, responsibility and sacred duty”.

The Russian leader vowed to ensure “sustained and stable development, unity and independence of the country”.

Putin thanked soldiers taking part in what Russia calls a “special military operation” in Ukraine, more than two years after it began on February 24, 2022, at a ceremony attended by some of those fighting.

“We are looking forward confidently,” Putin stressed in his speech, which was aired on national television.

Evoking the country’s “thousand-year history” as he spoke in the Kremlin’s gilded St Andrew’s Hall, the president said that present-day Russians owed a debt to previous generations who achieved “such triumphs that inspire us today”.

He said Russians shared a “firm conviction that we ourselves alone will determine the fate of Russia for the sake of present and future generations”.

Russia is “not refusing dialogue with western states” and is ready to talk about “questions of security and strategic stability”, Putin said, “but only on equal terms, respecting the interests of each other”.
