ITS no longer news that the immediate past Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Chief Abdulwaheed Adebayo Adelabu has emerged the standard bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state through the peaceful primary held at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ademasingba, last Sunday.
Any aspirant who is not satisfied with the process can approach the APC National Working Committee or go through the court for further clarifications and justice.
After all judiciary is believed to be the hope of a common man and nobody should be above law.
Besides, the choice of Chief Adelabu came to the people as a surprise because many members of the APC have put their attention on Engineer Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe due to his aggressive consultation and pre campaign process.
The electrified and aggressive campaign strategy adopted by the KPMG boss was indeed wonderful in the last three months which indicates that to govern the pace setters’ state is not a joke.
The emergence of Bayo Adelabu was attributed to the role the Ibadan Elders Forum and Business Doyen, Oba Otudeko played, coupled with humble and political background of his grand father, Chief Adegoke Adelabu.
In Oyo state, the political gladiators always consider the aspirant’s political and leadership experience when its comes to who occupies the Agodi Government House plus the home town or senatorial district the person is coming from, and since 1999, Ibadan is having a smooth ride in this aspect.
Unlike Joseph Tegbe, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, Otunba Alao- Akala, Adeniyi Akintola among others who has no difficult or barrier in moving closer to them, the allies of Chief Bayo Adelabu had built fences around which makes it difficult to have access to him.
As a young vibrant and successful banker, one will expect that accessibility to him should not be a problem but reverse is the case
Prior to the governorship primary of APC, the Ibadan born politician has no connection with the grassroot.
Picking Adelabu is not the problem but those people surrounding him, especially his media managers are not helping the situation.
Although to some people, the selection of Chief Bayo Adelabu is preferable to Engr Joseph Tegbe, the leading aspirant due to the speculations surrounding his identity, but a lot of efforts would be intensified before he can emerge.
