A Non-Governmental Organisation, New Dawn Development Foundation (NDDF), Oyo State branch, was unveiled in Ibadan, the state capital recently, while also taken part in the state’s monthly environmental sanitation.
Complementing the state government’s efforts at ensuring a clean environment, members cutting across all walks of life, particularly the media, turned out en bloc to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise last Saturday.
The foundation, also enjoyed moral supports from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Oyo State chapter as its Chairman, Comrade Adewunmi Faniran and the union’s secretary, Comrade Bola Ogunlayi joined the train.
The sanitation exercise lasted under the supervision of officials of the state’s Ministry of Environment Water Resources and also monitored by the ministry’s commissioner, Mr Isaac Ishola.
The NDDF members took time to clean up the Iwo road- Gate – Oje axis of the Ibadan metropolis. During the exercise, the Commissioner, Mr Ishola commended members of the foundation for the initiative, adding that it was in tandem with the transportation agenda of the state government.
Ishola, while pledging the government’s cooperation and support to the foundation, urged other groups to replicate such baronial gesture in complementing the state government’s developmental efforts.
He, however warned residents who are fond of violating environment laws, particularly those dumping refuse at road median to desist from the act as the full enforcement of environmental sanitation laws would commence by February 2017.
Also speaking shortly after the exercise, the NUJ chairman, Comrade Adewunmi Faniran lauded the goal of the Foundation, adding that its activities would go a long way in making the society a better place
In her own remarks, the Foundation’s President, Mrs Ayodeni Aluko explained that the organization was established to support government at all levels in its developmental efforts, averring that government cannot do it alone.
