Mesut Ozil hints he is unhappy with Arsene Wenger

Mesut Ozil admits he has been ‘forced to accept’ Arsene Wenger’s decision to play him out of position since he switched to a 3-4-3 formation.

The Germany international’s start to the new season has been hindered by a knee injury, while he has also been forced to contend with mounting speculation surrounding his future.

Ozil’s current deal expires at the end of the current campaign and with no movement over a new deal he has been linked with a move in the summer, with Manchester United said to be his preferred destination.

The former Real Madrid star put in an outstanding display in last weekend’s crushing 5-2 win at Everton, but he still insists he would prefer to be restored to his natural No.10 role, rather than being stationed out on the wing.

‘I know myself better than anyone else and I’m someone who needs to have fun on the pitch,’ Ozil told Sky Sports.

‘Everyone knows my favourite position is the playmaker, the No.10, at the moment the coach plays me on the right and it’s a thing I need to accept and to show my quality in that position.

‘Of course I’m happy to perform and give good performances individually, but it’s more important that we do that as a team. I think we did that really well against Everton.’
