Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a cult clash that occurred in Sagamu over the weekend.
In addition to the lawmaker, five suspected cultists have been apprehended in connection with the incident, which began on Wednesday and continued until Sunday, resulting in multiple casualties.
The lawmaker, who represents Sagamu State Constituency (1), is accused of providing shelter to the fleeing cultists.
Following a tip-off, a security team, consisting of Department of State Services (DSS) personnel, conducted a sting operation that led to the suspects’ arrest on the lawmaker’s property.
The arrested individuals, identified as Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade, are currently undergoing interrogation at the DSS Headquarters in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
According to sources, a significant number of dangerous weapons, including firearms, were confiscated from them.
This development comes several months after the DSS previously arrested Bello for allegedly orchestrating a violent protest in Sagamu related to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign policy.
During the protest, enraged youths vandalised approximately ten banks and other public infrastructure.
