IUFMP declares open workshop on media’s role in mitigating flood risk in Ibadan

THE Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, IUFMP on Tuesday kicked off a 3-day workshop for media men in Oyo state, emphasising on the role of the media in mitigating flood risk in Ibadan, supported by World Bank.

The workshop, held at the Prince Ajibola Afonja Hall housed by Plaza De Haruna, Oyo town is part of efforts to reduce flood risk in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

According to IUFMP, “the media has been identified as a major stakeholder in the all important mandate of curtailing the perennial incessant flooding for which Ibadan has become notorious and checkmating the attendant colossal loses of lives and properties”.

Also, the workshop among other objectives aims to forge a robust, mutually rewarding working relationship with the media and IUFMP and open the vista of participants to their invaluable roles in mitigating flood risks in Ibadan.

Declaring the workshop open, Oyo State commissioner for Information, culture and tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun advocated for synergy as the only way to stir growth and development in the state, just as he acknowledged the need for governments at all levels and the media to always collaborate especially where the issue of mitigation of flood risk is involved
