The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed receipt of letters of intent from 110 associations seeking registration as political parties ahead of future elections.
The Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, made the disclosure on Wednesday during a meeting with political stakeholders in Abuja.
Yakubu said the commission is processing the requests in line with extant legal provisions as well as the Commission’s 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
“As of Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties. We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our regulations and guidelines,” he said.
The INEC Chairman added that while all earlier applications had been acknowledged, six newly submitted ones were yet to be formally acknowledged but would be before the end of the week.
“So far, we have acknowledged all applications received, except for six, which were submitted recently. These will be acknowledged before the end of the week,” he assured.
Yakubu urged Nigerians, especially groups seeking registration, to consult the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which are available on the Commission’s website, to ensure compliance with all necessary requirements.
The Commission also released the full list of the 110 associations, including their proposed names, acronyms, contact addresses, and the names of their respective Chairmen and Secretaries.
“The list will be uploaded to our website and social media platforms shortly. Hard copies have also been included in your folders for this meeting,” he said.
Some of the associations seeking registration include the Key of Freedom Party (KFP), Obidient Peoples Party (OPP), United Social Democrats (USDP), Progressive Obedients Party (POP), and the Great Nigeria Party (GNP), among others.
Others on the list are the Far-Right Party, Nigerian Liberty Movement (NLM), All Youth Reclaim Party (AYRP), Republican Party of Nigeria (RPN), and the Pink Political Party (PPP).
INEC reiterated that the registration process remains strictly guided by law and would not be compromised for any political interest.
