Emeritus Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to fish out those behind the recent bloodbath by herdsmen.
The cardinal said the unveiling of the criminal elements by government’s security agents would assure the citizens that the President was giving priority attention to protecting their lives and properties.
Okogie said in a statement on Wednesday that human lives were sacrosanct and should not be toyed with.
He said; “Every Nigerian citizen is special. The rights that belong to us by virtue of being human beings and citizens are to be protected at all times.
“It is no longer news that our country has become a bye-word in the comity of nations. The international community looks with wonder at a country so tall on promise but short on delivery.
“The way our government mishandles matters of security gives the rest of the world the impression that we cannot govern ourselves. Little wonder derogatory words are used to describe us.
“But we can, and we must change the negative perception by doing things the right way. At this point in time, the matter of security must be rightly addressed without sweeping any item under the carpet. This is by far more important than getting elected or re-elected in 2019,’’ he said.
He said that since the Presidency was “controlling the security agencies, it should deploy them into fishing out where the criminal elements that perpetrated various activities in the country were.
“We, Nigerians, must insist that this government furnishes us with credible answers to these and the related questions: who and where are the criminals?”
“Where are the people who killed Nigerians? Why have they not appeared in court? What are the security agencies waiting for?,” he asked.
