Fed Poly Ayede holds entrepreneurship sensitisation webinar for pioneer students

Rector pledges to promote vocational, technical skills

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. Taofeek AbdulHameed, has reiterated that the council and management of the Polytechnic are committed to promoting technical and vocational skills.

This, according to him, would equip the students to become innovative and enterprising, to be able to create jobs and wealth for others and themselves respectively.

Dr. AbdulHameed stated this on Saturday in his opening remarks at the Sensitisation Webinar on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Education programme of the Polytechnic.

The Rector, also encouraged, the students to acquire skills needed to survive during and after school while pursuing their studies. He was represented at the webinar by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Ogunniyi.

Earlier, the institution’s Acting Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori welcomed the Rector, Dr. Taofeek Adekunle AbdulHameed, the Director of Academic Programmes, Dr. Akintunde Mutairu Oyewale; Director of Academic Programmes, Mr. Semiu Adabanija; the guest Speaker and Team Lead, SEAD Africa, and the participants at the Webinar who are students of the Polytechnic.

He, thereafter, introduced the Speaker who had on the previous day shared his profile with the students and representatives of the Management.

While speaking, Adabanija charged the students to take their primary assignment on campus, degree acquisition, seriously, just as he noted that a degree alone is not sufficient in the present world of work.

He stressed that there is a need for students to acquire Vocational and Technical Skills along with Entrepreneurship Education.

According to him, other actions that would help them to achieve their dreams and aspirations include, starting the entrepreneurship journey earlier, building a success story, learning vocational, technical, and soft skills, serving volunteering with organisations, undergoing internships and apprenticeships with relevant companies, pursue continuous learning, learn along chosen discipline, attend workshops, seminars, and conferences, read books and magazines, join service clubs and ‘parapo’ associations for leadership training, and document achievements which can be successes and failures. He concluded by reminding the students/participants to be ready to add value to themselves, their families and the society at large.

Thereafter, the Acting Director, Mr. Owojori recapped the discussion.

In his closing remarks, the Rector, Dr. AbdulHameed lauded the Guest Speaker for his dedication and invaluable contributions to knowledge.

The webinar was called to an end with special appreciation from the Acting Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of the Polytechnic to the Management, Guest Speaker and the Students/Participants.

He, however, called on the students to activate what they have learnt through the webinar and be prepared to write an ‘Aspiration Plan”.
