Residents of Apete and its environs in Ido local government area of Oyo state have called on the state governor,  Engineer Oluseyi Makinde to declare emergency on Apete-Akufo road and other linking roads in the ancient community in Ibadan metropolis.

Some of the residents who spoke with Mega Icon Magazine lamented the deplorable condition of the road and seek for government urgent intervention. They appealed to the governor to come to their rescue by constructing the road to make life better for the people.

According to one of the residents, Adesola Kamil, “the roads are no longer motorable, erosion has created gully on many parts of the road making it difficult for motorists even motorcycle riders to navigate. Some of us have abandoned our vehicles at home because we cannot afford to be visiting mechanics frequently because of the precarious  condition of these roads”.

Also, another resident, Alhaja Adejoke Olagoke added,  ” It is risky to pass through  that route with goods now. We run at a loss, because of delay or accident due to bad roads, we need the government to help us fix the road urgently.

In a chat with our reporter,  the Chairman of Awotan Community Landlord Association, Engr. Fabayo Rasaq informed that the community had earlier made some efforts to fix the road and it was motorable then, but later got damaged due to heavy downpour and blockage of drainages.

“We have commenced work on some parts of the road but our effort is just a temporary measure. We need a permanent solution , we want the governor to fix the road for us. Many people are deserting the community because of the poor condition of the road and I believe in the ability of Engineer Makinde to continue where his predecessor stopped”, Fabayo submitted.
