A governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Congress (APC), Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, has unveiled a seven-point developmental agenda to reclaim Oyo state’s pacesetting glory if he is elected.

The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), deputy governor was the governorship nominee of APC in the 2019 general election.

Adelabu unveiled his agenda at a press conference heralding an official declaration to contest the 2023 governorship election in Ibadan, on Monday.

He listed the agenda to include, security of lives and properties, mechanized agriculture and poverty alleviation, industrialization and employment creation, affordable and quality healthcare services, quality education, a healthy environment, good governance, and innovative ideas

The APC chieftain said the Seyi Makinde-led government has enthroned thuggery and hooliganism as the official controllers of Oyo State, lamenting that “indigenes and residents can not sleep with their two eyes closed talkless of doing businesses of life with peace and progress”.

“The last three years have provided me the sober opportunity to review our state of the nation, as it concerns Oyo State. After this introspection, I come to the humble conclusion that our dear state can be better than what we have at the moment. This is not the best we can offer at the Pace Setter state.

“To rekindle my unalloyed commitment to offering myself to serve my State with the best of my effort garnered over time from my sojourn in the corporate and business worlds, I have obtained both the forms for the Expression of interest and Nomination of our party. The form shall be submitted in due course”, he disclosed.

While assuring the residents that the security challenges troubling the state will soon be a thing of the past, if he is elected as the next governor, Adelabu blamed Governor Makinde for the growing insecurity in Oyo state, saying, “the present government has with its own hands, through greed and being neophytes in power, unleashed violence on the people of Oyo State through its halfhearted implementation of improving the parks system and transportation”.

He promised purposeful leadership that would guarantee quality socio-economic advancement and human development that would positively meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

SECURITY OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES:

This will be of utmost importance for the government that I will lead if voted in as the flagbearer of APC in the Governorship contest of 2023 in Oyo State. The present government has with its own hands, through greed and being neophytes in power, unleashed violence on the people of Oyo State through its halfhearted implementation of improving the parks system and transportation in Oyo State. Likewise will our eyes not be closed to external aggressors against the peace of the good people of Oyo State.

MECHANIZED AGRICULTURE AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION:

My private sector experience, coupled with my experience as a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and my various networks in the private, government, and international sectors; I am seized by the programme and ideas to alleviate and lift thousands of the good people of Oyo State from the excruciating stranglehold of poverty that the PDP government has entangled round the neck of our people.

INDUSTRIALISATION AND EMPLOYMENT CREATION:

We shall bring back the glory of Ibadan as a hub for industrialists and we shall open up other cities and establish industrial networks in them. We shall make gainful employment available for the people as this will be a concomitant to the industrialisation of Oyo State.

HEALTH:

Health is wealth is a truism. We shall give top priority to the provision of affordable health services for our people.

EDUCATION:

This shall be a high focus priority for our government if we win. Education will be on the front burner which we might most likely declare an emergency priority.

ENVIRONMENT:

Provision of a healthy environment with monitored sanitation.

GOOD GOVERNANCE & INNOVATIVE IDEAS:

Good governance begets patriotic citizens. We shall be transparent in all aspects and areas of government and we shall give very great latitude to innovative ideas for it has been proven over centuries that good innovative ideas, both in governance and technology are the forerunners to having a great and prosperous society. This I believe in and this I will bring into governance in Oyo State as we all march together as a party and a people to carry the flag of APC in the 2023 governorship election of Oyo State.

We assure you that with your votes and the help of Almighty ALLAH, we shall all sing the song of victory together when I shall have won the Governorship election of Oyo State as the flagbearer of our great party, the APC.

The General Elections and particularly the gubernatorial election in our Dear State would meet all of us alive by God’s Grace. It shall be a Turning Point for the progress of our pacesetting State. May God answer all our heart’s desires. May He bless each and all, men and women, old and young.

In a historic ruling, a Ugandan court on Friday sentenced former Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) commander Thomas Kwoyelo to 40 years in prison.

This landmark decision, marking the first time a member of the notorious LRA has faced trial for war crimes in a Ugandan court, follows the group’s brutal two-decade insurgency against the Ugandan government.

Kwoyelo, who was convicted in August on 44 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, faced charges including murder, rape, torture, pillaging, abduction, and the destruction of settlements for internally displaced people.

Michael Elubu, lead judge of the case at the International Crimes Division (ICD) of Uganda’s High Court, delivered the sentence in the northern city of Gulu, underscoring a rare moment of accountability in the decades-long history of the LRA’s violence.

Judge Elubu stated that Kwoyelo retains the right to appeal both his conviction and sentence within 14 days.

Kwoyelo, who was abducted by the LRA at the age of 12 and later rose to a low-level command position within the organization, denied all charges brought against him.

The Lord’s Resistance Army, founded by Joseph Kony in the 1980s, sought to establish a regime based on the Ten Commandments. Under Kony’s leadership, the group unleashed widespread terror across Uganda and neighboring regions, resulting in over 100,000 deaths and the abduction of 60,000 children.

The violence eventually spread to Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the Central African Republic.
