Three members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kaduna State House of Assembly have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the impressive leadership and governance of Governor Uba Sani as their reason for the switch.

The defectors, Henry Mara of Jaba State Constituency, Emmanuel Kantiok of Zonkwa Constituency, and Samuel Kamabai of Zangon Kataf Constituency, made their announcement during separate events in their wards on Thursday.

Their defection comes just two days after Amos Magaji, the member representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, also left the PDP for the APC.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mara, who serves as the spokesperson for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, explained that their decision was motivated by the exemplary leadership demonstrated by Governor Sani. He emphasized that they believed aligning with the ruling APC would allow them to better serve their constituents and strengthen the political future of their regions.

Mara further noted that the PDP’s popularity in Southern Kaduna has significantly waned, attributing this shift to the achievements of Governor Sani’s administration. He pointed out that the peace, security, and unity now prevalent in the region are a testament to the success of the current leadership. According to Mara, the governor’s performance has effectively neutralized the once strong opposition in the state.

“A major realignment in the power structure of the state House of Assembly is looming,” Mara said, hinting at more opposition members potentially following suit and joining the APC in the near future.

Kantiok also echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the return of peace to Kaduna under Governor Sani’s leadership was a major factor in his defection. He acknowledged that the former stronghold of the PDP in Southern Kaduna has been altered, with the Governor’s credible leadership fostering trust and cooperation among the people.
