NO fewer than 700 teachers with fake certificates have been discovered by the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Disclosing this in Calabar, the state’s capital, Chairman of the Board, Mr Stephen Odey, hinted that the fake teachers were uncovered at the end of a verification exercise for teachers.
Mr Odey said, “I can authoritatively confirm to you that, we have uncovered about 758 teachers with fake certificates and by that exercise, we have also uncovered about 700 ghost workers in Cross River State Teaching Service.
“We are saving the state from paying salaries to people that are non-genuine staff”.
“SUBEB will be saving this state close to 60-70 million Naira monthly from the just concluded exercise,” he stressed.
The Chairman, however promised that his administration would not relent in riding the state of unqualified persons posing to be teachers.
