2019: Oyo ADP charges INEC to increase facilities for voters registration

ACTION Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to increase facilities for the registration of voters in the state during the extended period for registration. The party also counselled INEC to move registration centres around the state particularly to locations where the registration exercise had not taken place.

The party in a statement signed by its Acting Director of Media Relations, Alhaja Quadrat Folasade Adewoyin on Monday and made available to Mega Icon Magazine lauded the INEC for the extension of the exercise by two weeks, averring that the gesture will hopefully help more voters in Oyo State to register for the 2019 elections.

“However, the extension will be meaningful in getting more voters to register if INEC increase voter registration facilities and materials. INEC also needs to move registration centres to many locations across the state so that eligible voters who are far off from INEC offices will also have the opportunity to register for future elections

“While it is commendable that INEC has over time opened its doors to eligible voters to register, we advise that INEC should move registration centres to many areas where complaints have been loud about inavailability of registration centres.

“Many of such areas include Apata, Foko, Beyerunka, Agbowo, Eyin Girama, Akobo, Olorunda Aba, Ologuneru, Arulogun, Sango, Apete, Sanyo, Soka area and many rural areas in Ibadan as well as towns and villages outside the headquarters of the 33 local government councils across the state”, the statement reads.

The ADP said the good work of INEC over the past months in registering eligible voters will be crowned with more success if the commission could make the exercise accessible to people in these areas who have been cut off from the exercise by the fact of their locations.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) also counselled members of the public to take advantage of the extension of voters registration exercise to register.

“It is our right to elect leaders of our choice. It is also our responsibility. Our quest for a good government in Oyo State can only be achieved if we vote to elect responsible and compassionate people into government. Such exercise of power of election is only available to those who register to vote at elections”, the party added.
