In a decisive move to curb the rampant illegal mining activities that have fueled banditry and criminality in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal issued a sweeping ban on Saturday.

This stern directive was accompanied by orders for law enforcement officials to take rigorous actions against violators.

Sulaiman Idris, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, made this announcement in an official statement.

He emphasized that illegal mining had been a significant contributor to the escalating insecurity in the state over the years.

Governor Lawal underlined the urgent need to put an end to this destructive activity and to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.

To enforce this ban effectively, he further instructed security operatives to take bold and uncompromising measures, including the authority to shoot on sight anyone found engaged in illegal mining.

This resolute stance signifies a critical step toward restoring peace and security in Zamfara State.

“The directive is necessary to ensure the safety and security of the good people of Zamfara and deter potential wrongdoers from committing such acts.

“It is also a swift action to enable the State Government to be in total control of state resources and block activities that endanger the lives and properties of the people.

“Illegal mining is undeniably one of the driving forces behind the rampant banditry plaguing Zamfara State. We must take swift, decisive action to curb this menace and restore peace and security to our communities”, the governor said.
