The suspect, Favour Nweke, speaking to journalist as police paraded her in Port Harcourt for allegedly pouring hot oil on her husband.

A woman identified as Favour Nweke, hailing from Obite village in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, has been apprehended and publicly paraded by the Rivers State Police Command for the alleged disfigurement of her husband’s body with scalding hot oil.

The incident unfolded in the state capital, Port Harcourt, and was met with shock and condemnation.

Commissioner of Police, Emeka Nwonyi, presided over the grim display of Mrs. Nweke and other suspects at the command’s headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

In a stern message to the public, CP Nwonyi emphasized that the long arm of the law would relentlessly pursue those who commit such heinous acts.

“(She) used hot groundnut oil on the husband may be for whatever domestic issue they have. You can run but you cannot hide, so I can assure you that the person has been arrested and is here with us. The law will catch up with anybody and do the necessary sanctions because if you do anyhow, you see anyhow,” CP Nwonyi declared.

Regrettably, Mrs. Nweke, when interviewed, expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging that she and her husband had been engaged in a dispute at the time she poured the scalding oil over him.

She confessed that she wouldn’t have committed such an act had she known the severe consequences it would entail.

The victim, Ekelediri Nwokekoro, originally from Okehi in the Etche Local Government Area of the state, bore the painful brunt of the incident. Covered in painful blisters, he managed to articulate a few words about the ordeal he now faces.

“This is the challenge I face this period, it is an accident, and I didn’t know it would occur this way,” Nwokekoro managed to mutter, revealing the profound physical and emotional scars left by the incident.

Amidst the unfolding tragedy, other suspects were also apprehended by the police on charges related to cultism, case snatching, and robbery.

The authorities displayed a cache of weapons recovered during these operations, underscoring the ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order in Rivers State.
