Wike suggests $1bn fund to tackle regional environmental challenges

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has proposed the withdrawal of money from the excess crude account to tackle environmental challenges in the Niger Delta.

Wike registered his position while reacting to the approval given by the Governor’s Forum to the Federal Government for the withdrawal of $1billion from the Excess Crude Account for the fight against insurgency.

Governor Wike informed newsmen that after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja that while he supports the fight against insurgency, the approval by the Governor’s Forum is illegal.

With out giving much details, Wike, further disclosed that the purpose of his visit was to brief the president about security issues in his state.
