Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revealed that security agencies have identified a senator allegedly involved in sponsoring recent protests in the nation’s capital.
The minister, in a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, disclosed that while the identity of the senator remains confidential, it is believed that the lawmaker provided food to the protesters.
“That is sponsorship. A senator providing food for protesters. At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator and find out how you will be sponsoring this kind of thing against the government of the day,” Wike stated.
Wike urged protesters to adhere to court orders and confine their demonstrations to the MKO Abiola Stadium. He explained that security agencies had received intelligence indicating attempts to hijack the peaceful protests, prompting the need to consolidate the gatherings in one location.
The minister emphasized that he is not opposed to the protests but insists that all demonstrations should comply with legal regulations.
He commended the protesters for their peaceful approach and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to dialogue and addressing the hardships faced by Nigerians.
“President Bola Tinubu’s administration is taking necessary measures to alleviate the hardship of Nigerians,” he added.
