African Democratic Congress (ADC), House of Assembly candidates in Oyo State whose elections in 2019 ran concurrently with that of Governor Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday said they were the direct casualties and sacrificial lambs of the political alliance as all the 32 seats of the House of Assembly went along the coalition governorship candidate.
The House of Assembly candidates led by Mr. Gaphar Ojetola (Ibadan North Constituency I) also emphasized that they did not requested for and were not given any financial compensation before consenting to the terms of the alliance as they were repeatedly assured of political appointments by Governor Makinde.
These assurances, according to them were also reemphasized by Governor Makinde during his thank you visit to Senator Olufemi Lanlehin’s residence.
Tolani Adigun Tajudeen (Ibadan South West Constituency II), Abeeb Idowu Balogun (Ibadan Southwest Constituency II), Paul Ajadi Alagbe (Ogbomoso North Constituency I), Akinpelu Akinsunbo (Ibadan North West), Salami Oladejo Dikko (Oluyole Constituency), Adekunle Yakub Adeyemi (Ibadan North East II) and Wale Ajani (Ona Ara Constituency II) among others; were also in attendance.
Speaking at a press conference held at the NUJ press center, Iyaganku Ibadan, the ADC Assembly Candidates who reaffirmed their loyalty to the leadership of Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, the governorship candidate of the party at the 2019 general election who along with other gubernatorial candidates freely and willingly relinquished their ambitions for Engr. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and worked together in defeating the ruling APC candidate, Oloye Bayo Adelabu further regretted that almost nine months into the coalition government till date, the governor has not fulfilled any of the agreement reached.
They reminded that the alliance of the 2nd March, 2019 was the master stroke that changed the calculus of the political landscape in the state which gave the four parties the deserving victory that threw up Makinde to becoming the governor.
“The body language of the governor is that of abandonment to fulfilling his own part of the agreement despite that we have staked everything possible to his electoral victory at the polls. That victory was our joint efforts and the terms of the promises should be fulfilled without further delay.
” We have sacrificed so much than to be abandoned, used and dumped, ignored or treated in this manner. We should be setting good precedence, as we did in the last election, for other states to follow in similar circumstances”, they lamented.
They, however called on Governor Makinde to , as a matter of urgency , redeem his promises according to the terms of agreement with Senator Olufemi Lanlehin .
