Usain Bolt is no stranger to speed – but even he was shocked at the rate Lewis Hamilton gets around the track.
Before acting as the official starter for the race in Austin, which could see Hamilton take an unbeatable lead in the driver’s championship, Bolt was taken around the track by the Brit.
Hamilton pushed the limits with Bolt in the passenger seat, sliding his way around the Circuit of the Americas.
And Bolt was overwhelmed when he got out of the car.
”I genuinely was not ready for that,” Bolt is quoted by Foxsports.com.
“That was really stressful. He took the traction control off. I thought I was going to die.”
Bolt has made it clear that he isn’t giving up on sport after his retirement from running.
It’s not F1 that he’s targeting though – Bolt has a dream of being a professional footballer and reckons he could play for Jamaica “easily”.
The massive Manchester United fan has always had designs on trading his spikes in for boots and even at 31 isn’t giving up.
“For me it’s a personal goal. I don’t care what people really think about it,” he said at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
“I’m not going to lie to myself. I’m not going to be stupid.
“If I feel I can’t do it, I’m going to say ‘you know what, forget this’. I’m not trying to embarrass myself.
“But if I go out there and feel I can do this then I will give it a try. It’s a dream and another chapter of my life.
“If you have a dream that you always wanted to do, why not try and see where it will go.”
Bolt retired from running after the world championships in London but has been busy touring the world for sponsors since.
One of those big-name backers in Puma, who have close connections with Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
He has an open invitation to train with the club and will do that when his hamstring is healed.
“It’s just my hamstring is keeping me back right now. In two weeks I can start training again and get back into some shape. Then I can really explore the situation,” he said.
“They say the invitation is always open so it’s all about me getting over my injury and then getting into shape. Then I can do the trials and see what level I’m at.”
Bolt has revealed he once spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson about his football dreams.
“He said ‘Alright, get into shape and I’ll see where that goes’,” Bolt said.
Bolt’s target is the Jamaican national team, who missed out on Russia 2018 qualifying.
“I think I can make the Jamaica team easily. I wouldn’t say they are that good at this point,” he said.
