The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has told the political gladiators in the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party to work seriously on taking responsibility for the various setbacks allegedly brought into the governance of the Pacesetters State in 2003 by them rather than dissipating their time on media campaigns ahead of the 2019 general election.
The PDP dislodged the Lam Adesina-led Alliance for Democracy government in 2003 and held on to power until 2011 after Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala had served a term each as governors of the state under its umbrella.
In a statement issued today in Ibadan by the APC’s Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, the ruling party described the recent media attacks allegedly coming from the PDP as a misplaced priority and a futile attempt to hijack power again in 2019 through fraudulent means.
“The PDP, as presently constituted in Oyo State, is a ghost of the same body which was successfully sent to the great beyond by the electorate and the good people of the state in 2011 on account its disgusting record of political malpractices, violence and bad governance. It is therefore not surprising that some unscrupulous elements, who had benefitted maximally at the time when the umbrella of regret was erected, would not seek to unleash its remnants on the people again.
“As it stands today, the problem with the PDP in Oyo State in particular and Nigeria in general is not about winning future elections or returning to power but how to atone commensurately for the sins of the past. This accounts for why violence and in-fighting prevail whenever they gather to resolve on issues of party interest. The name, PDP, alone tells a story of brigandage, impunity and corruption to which the masses would never subscribe again.
“As a matter of fact, the recent development which saw to the hijack of the carcass of the PDP by former Governor Rashidi Ladoja and his co-travellers in the used and dumped Accord Party would quicken the recovery of the once larger-than-life political party from the morgue and pave the way for its final burial only for the masses to be at a lasting advantage.” Sadare submitted.
