Two APC chieftains killed, one other kidnapped in Enugu

Gunmen have killed two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and kidnapped one other from a ward in Enugu state.

The gunmen were said to have stormed ward 3 venue in Obeagu Awkunanaw of Enugu South Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses informed that members of the party were having a reconciliation meeting for opposing factions, when the armed gunmen numbering over seven invaded the venue, killing the two party members instantly and abducting one other person.

Other attendees, as gathered sustained gun injuries and were rushed to a medical facility to receive treatments.

An APC chieftain and the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria,  Osita Okechukwu has condemned the act.

He called for calm amongst party members in the state, asking the security agencies to unravel the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

A festering leadership crisis has plagued the Enugu State chapter of the APC, despite a state congress held last year to try and bring cohesion in the state chapter.

Three factions emerged claiming leadership and control., with the third faction claiming authority after the state congress.
