No fewer than 30 passengers lost their lives in a ghastly road crash on Saturday evening at Mile 49, along the Lagos-Ore Expressway near Ore, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the tragic incident to journalists on Sunday, revealing that the victims were burnt beyond recognition.
According to Ibitoye, the accident resulted from a head-on collision between two vehicles, which was attributed to excessive speeding and traffic violations. He lamented that reckless driving continues to claim innocent lives on the nation’s highways.
“This unfortunate incident was caused by excessive speeding and violation of traffic regulations, leading to a fatal head-on collision. Sadly, 30 passengers lost their lives as they were burnt beyond recognition,” Ibitoye stated.
The FRSC boss urged motorists to exercise patience and adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital in Ore, while the two survivors, who sustained severe injuries, are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
