The South West Guild of Online Publishers has charged the newly inaugurated management of the South West Development Commission to deliver visionary programmes and ensure quality and timely execution of developmental projects across the region.
The Guild made the call in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Bisi Oladele, and Public Relations Officer, Remi Oladoye.
It congratulated the commission’s new management team and urged them to immediately swing into action by focusing on initiatives that would accelerate development in the South West.
The statement read in part, “SWEGOP welcomes SWDC to the overall efforts at making South-West Nigeria the best place to live, invest, study and recreate. The DAWN Commission has laid a good foundation for this. Hence, the need to collaborate with it for optimum resource utilisation and impactful results. Riding on the frameworks developed by DAWN since 2013 will enhance the speedy achievement of SWDC’s lofty goals.”
SWEGOP also called on the commission to work closely with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission to deepen regional integration and stimulate economic activities that can transform the South-West into a hub for innovation, investment and industrial growth.
It noted that the commission has a crucial role to play in addressing developmental challenges in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, youth empowerment, and the promotion of the region’s core values.
The Guild expressed confidence in the leadership of the commission, especially the Chairman, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi; Senator Yunus Akintunde; and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, who head the relevant National Assembly committees.
It also lauded the appointment of the Managing Director of the commission, Dr Charles Akinola, describing him as a seasoned technocrat whose wealth of experience with international development agencies and public service would be of immense value to the commission’s success.
“SWEGOP believes that given the calibre of individuals selected to lead the commission, the SWDC is poised to meet the high expectations of the people of the region,” the statement added.
The Guild called on the management to ensure that its projects bring visible improvement to the lives of the people and uplift the South-West both economically and socially.
While pledging to closely monitor the commission’s activities, SWEGOP assured the public of its commitment to holding leaders accountable and reporting developments objectively.
